My Texas Mile run
Well, I took my bone stock ZR to the Texas Mile. What a blast.
Not the best conditions - pretty darned windy during the days.
I had a 178.1 on Saturday morning, and given the weather conditions figured that was going to be as good as it got for the trip.
However, on Sunday morning she ran 180.3 mph.
My car is bone stock. Running on pump gas. And I'm just an average joe type of driver, so it was all car.
I did get to use the Launch Control. That's a pretty neat device, although I have to tell ya, the first time you engage it you really have to talk yourself into flooring the throttle with the clutch in and first gear engaged. At least I had to talk myself into it. My brain simply isn't wired to feel comfortable flooring the gas with the clutch in.
But, it works fine. Car settles around 4k rpm. Quick release of the clutch and off you go. I kept the pedal to the floor during the 1-2, the 2-3 and even the 3-4 shifts. Launch control handled the shifts as advertised. I did lift throttle to shift 4-5 as that is a bit more deliberate shift motion/throw to hit 5th, and I wanted my brain focusing on nailing the shift.
All in all - and particularly given the conditions, I feel the ZR represented pretty well.
And what a blast to run it all out for a mile.
Travis.

Thanks Tom.
Was a nice road trip. Drove the ZR from Wichita to the event. Ran the event. Then drove her home. She had 2200 miles on her when I left Wichita. 3000 when I was there, and 3800 on her now.
These are great road cars. And as my numbers for the Mile show - they're pretty stout too.

I sure envy you......How did the car feel at 180? I did get to 160 on our local interstate when I caught an area with noone in front.....Amazing how the car pulls in 6th gear.......The 180 is a very good run, well done!!!

Congrats on the new record!!
Even though the conditions were not good with the crosswinds there were some records set.
We went 205.3 mph for a new GT-R record.
MTI Racing ran a 216.2 mph in their SC Z06 for a new record
That crazy bike ran a 278 for a new record
Not sure if there were more records set but in those conditions you gotta feel good if you break one as everyone was running slower than normal for sure.

She was stable and smooth at speed. Given the windy conditions I expected the ride to be more unsettled than it was. The wind was definitely scrubbing speed.
There were a lot of cars there that had been there before and so had established baselines. Several folks commented the wind was scrubbing a good 5 mph off everybody's time.
The folks at Chevy have this ZR sorted out pretty well. Stable, smooth and a blast to run.

Yeah I know what you mean Derek. Not a lot of choices on where to stay. I stayed at the Best Western in Beeville. Booked my room back in May - as the place (like all of them) gets filled up fast because of the event.

I don't have any pics or video. Don't know if anybody else caught me on vid or pics.
I thought about getting one of those little vid cams to suction mount on the inside of the windshield. Work schedule kept me busy enough I forgot about it until it was already time to head down to the event.
I wish I would have done that. Would have been neat to have a vid of my 180.3 mph run, as I nailed the shift points and had a good clean run.

Yeah, the launch control will both handle the launch and if you keep the throttle buried - and don't lift at shifts - it will manage throttle during the shifts as well.
Pretty nifty device. Like I said, I did lift throttle on the 4-5 shift as I knew it would take a bit longer than the other shifts, which can be executed very fast in the ZR, and I wanted my brain focused on making the shift instead of focused on keeping the throttle buried during the shift (which at least for me, took some focus to do).
