I have oil leaking from the rear housing covering the two rotor drive gears. I would estimate that an ounce of oil has leaked out so far. It is a clear fluid with no oily odor. I took it to GM and they said this is normal, it is just excess oil coming out of the sealed bearings and it will go away in a couple thousand miles. I have 800 miles on the car now. I don't think the mechanics have been properly trained on these engines. It just doesn't seem right that something is dripping out. Can anybody give me any input?

Are you sure it from the supercharger? I didn't know the rear of the s/c is visible. It's not the oil pressure sender leaking, is it? Or the coolant plugs on the heads?

The dealer used a mirror to view the back of the supercharger and it is definitely dripping from the gear housing that drives the two rotors. I spoke with an engineer from Eaton Corporation and he said there should definitely be no oil leaking out and there are only two places oil could come from: 1) the seals on the rear of the rotor shafts and 2) the housing cover itself. He also said that GM cannot service the supercharger at all. It must be swapped out with a new one. So I followed up with the service manager at my dealership and now they have to get approval from GM to change it.

Excellent work, just too bad you have to do it and GM dropped the ball.....Not sure how that recovery plan is working for them......

I don't know how much I'd trust a dealer that said an oil leak was normal
If Eaton engineers said NO oil leaking in that area, that's all you need to hear. I would not return to the first dealer, period. Suggest you contact a ZR1 approved dealer and talk with them.
pm me if yo'd like to know an approved ZR1 dealer in your area.
I'd also persoanlly contact your local GM service rep to inform him of your LS9 issue. He should have been aware of it already.
Additionally: Suggest you call Chevrolet Customer Assistance Center at 1-800-222-1020. Found that number in my 2010 Chevrolet Limited warranty and owner assistance information bookelt.

You are not that far away from me. We get customers all the time from Chico/Gridley/Oroville area that will not use local dealerships due to stories like this. I have multiple members from Chico's Corvette clubs come in for all their work. I would be happy to take a look at it and see what is really going on.
We have some of the highest trained techs in Nor Cal and our Customer Service rating is in the top 2% of the nation. We are 100% Corvette and ZR1 certified and take pride in our work. Please call me and we can set something up. If it needs to stay, I will be happy to set you up with a rental, free of charge.

I am just assuming that is the dealer in question based on the comments about it being normal. I have multiple members from Chico's Corvette clubs come in for all their work. NYC, in particular the 5 boroughs needs a dealership like yours around here. Kerbeck is quite a trek for us NYers!!!
I spoke to my local dealership's service manager and he said the supercharger cannot leak because it is a sealed unit. He also said that the engineer I spoke to at Eaton Corporation doesn't know what he is talking about. (Imagine that - the builder of the supercharger doesn't know what he is talking about?!) Long story short: I contacted Rich at Abel Chevrolet and my car goes to him on Tuesday. He is a great guy, understands my problem and frustration and has extremely well trained mechanics. He doesn't have his hands tied behind his back and he doesn't need special permission just to open the hood from GM from a guy sitting behind a desk with his head up his ---. Thanks guys! Corvette Forum comes through again!!!
This is what always frustrates me with GM. You buy this $140K car. You expect to be treated like a customer and a customer with respect. You have a legitimate problem (oil leaking from your supercharger). You go to GM and they treat you like an idiot and blow you off, instead of dealing and fixing the problem.

FWIW, his issue is not with GM, it is the dealer. I will be handling this issue beginning tomorrow morning at 8:00 when it arrives here.

RICH
My hats off to you for stepping up to fix his issue.
I will disagree with you on the point that the issue is with GM and not only the dealer. There are bad dealerships with every car maker but GM is disproportionally higher with bad dealerships. The reason stems back to GM's lack of oversight/quality control in its dealerships.
I have owned numerous makes of cars in the past 20 years. GM, Toyota, Mazda, Dodge, etc. By far, hands down, all my experiences with GM have always been less than favorable when it comes to warranty issues and customer service. I went to numerous GM dealers, and they all ranked from being really bad to being somewhat bad. I have yet to experience a bad experience with my Toyota or Mazda dealership.
GM collapsed and went through bankruptcy and one of the factors involved in its demise, was that GM has always been known for its notorious treatment of its customers and its warranty work.
When I buy a GM product, I know & come to expect that I will get bad service and will be hassled by the dealer if it comes to warranty work or any customer issue during and after the sale.
