They are making them every day again. They will pile up and I believe to sell it will need to be at sticker or lower. Most are fully optioned and higher than quoted above. If I find one with base options at slightly below sticker or less I want one. I waited and got the ZO6's at a discount, this is not going to be any different.
Just be patient and they'll be offered for MSRP or lower before you know it
sucks they dont sell them now for it. I was talking to my friend yesterday and he said he called everyone trying to buy a zr1 for msrp and couldnt get it. He has a 08 zo6, 07 lt3 and a 06 track car.. And monday he is going to be picking up a brand new viper instead... guess chevy just lost another customer

If he thinks the Viper is anything like the ZR1 he just made a bad purchase. I had the Viper and I have the ZR1, no comparison at all. The ZR1 moves like a cat on the street, the Viper has a lot of power but no ability to use it on the street.

Thats one of the big reasons I went out & bought a turbo Porsche, I have owned 16 vettes in my life & will be dammed if I pay over sticker for a rapidly depreciating asset like a car.

And you think Porsches depreciate any less? The Last one I had went down close to 40% in 2 years
Still I strongly agree and would never pay over MSRP which is the SUGGESTED retail price.
ZO6s, the Chrysler Hemi cars, SSRs, Ford T-Birds and even the PT Cruisers were bought by a lot of Gottohaveitnow guys. All ended up being sold a discounts by the Stealers.
Crap ALL new cars go down so fast the last thing you want to do is pay even more for it.
Too many 'got to have it now' or 'got to be the first' people and the greedy dealers know this. You'd think they'd learn after a while (the dealers that is).
Exactly a year ago (March 2008), I was looking for a new '08 Z06 2LZ. The local dealer (Rockenbach Chevrolet) had ALL their Vettes marked up with an additional $20K ADM on the sticker. Walked out the door and bought the same car for $10+K under MSRP from a dealer about an hour from here.
The kicker, that 2008 Z06 is still sitting on their lot today!

Exactly my point again. Any car these days are taking a hit Porsche's included. I bought mine used with 3K miles it had a real high MSRP because it is equipped with every option that was available. But I'm into it no more than a new ZR1 would cost. The last owner took a big hit. My last vette was an 04 Z06 was noisy & road like a lumber wagon.Seating uncomfortable but a blast to drive & it was cramped enough for my tall frame. The C-6 is even more so, Seats also suck. Another factor was I wanted a super car with an auto. I like the car & no regrets so far. Feels like an adventure every time I get behind the wheel as a sports car should. One thing for sure is I wouldn't want to own it without a warranty should anything go wrong. Would I love to have another vette sitting next to it you bet.
I was down in Atlanta yesterday looking at Vette's and called a local Pontiac dealer because the Pontiac website said they had a 6 speed GXP on the lot. I wanted to be sure before driving that way. When I finally got someone on the phone, he told me they were 'limiting' the test drives on the car because it was a "limited production run vehicle". Ok I said, that's all fine and dandy, but I'm in the market, I'm from SC, and I'd like to test drive the car. Is it available to test drive or not? He repeated that they were 'limiting' test drives...so I ask a third time, is the car available for a test drive. He finally told me that it was on the showroom floor...I said that sort of made test drives hard didn't it? His response? They were 'limiting' the test drives on this car because it was a "limited production run vehicle".
I wanted to tear up his cue cards he was reading from. I thanked him, and told him I'd look elsewhere to buy a GXP.
Then I found a Vette I really like, so I don't really care about the GXP's any longer.
I was in MD 2 weeks ago and a Forum Dealer there; Criswell Chevrolet has a ZR1 in the showroom, for $50,000 dealer markup still, a joke in this economy.

Way too many Mods... my bank account hurts
Most ZR1"s can be bought and being sold for around $20,000 over MSRP. Criswell has decided not to come down with the market value hence why they still have a red and black one.

I can tell you that the ZR1 is holding it's value much better than the 997TT. (BTW... don't you just love the smell of your 997TT)
I just love how everyone compairs the ZR1 to Z06's and 997TT's exct...
Lots will never be full of ZR1's and since the great majority of them were already sold at a good mark up over MSRP the chances that the rest will some how become a bargain is just about zero. Any dealer worth his salt knows what they can get for the car, they will just sit on it. Your never going to see a ZR1 red tag event. If you want a bargain they can always put you in a Cobalt SS.
600+HP cars will never be a wise purchase, in the end your most certainly going to loose money.

Yeah right ! I don't know how long you have been around but the same was said for the ZR-1 in,1990,Z06 in 01, C-6 in 05,Z06 in 06,& now the new ZR-1 & just look what happened to the value of those after a couple of years. Then to go out & pay over MSRP over that duh ! GM as we speak is pumping more of them out. Even so lets have this conversation six months from now. Point is cars are a depreciating investment no matter who builds them. By the way they have built far less 997's then corvettes, My other point would be Corvettes were always a bargain & loved all 16 that I owned since 67, I think GM shut a lot of potential buyers out when they went over $70,000 & now for over a 119,000 they are getting out of their league & market. If they want to play that game they will have to improve the quality & build no more units than 500 a year. Perhaps even consider all wheel drive & a decent interior.
ZR1 is currently being produced to fill customer orders only and will not be produced for dealer stock. ZR1 was netting $15k-$25k plus over MSRP before BG shut-down and remains at this level post shut-down.
With the fate of the ZR1 yet to be determined, and for that matter the Corvette as a whole, coupled with limited production levels, IMO I believe prices will remain constant for some time and may neven go a bit north of these numbers. There are many out there whom are willing to pay this premium now, thus shrinking the market of available cars.

Or less. You'll soon see the on the resale market as the guys looking to make a quick buck by flipping them start needing their money.
Good point on the ZR1. A guy in our club was telling me of a ZR1 90s version a guy just put up for sale. Something like 700 miles on it with the plastic still on the seats. Windowed at $64K + in 1990 dollars.
Can't even gt an offer of $25K for it.
What happened is the C5 and C6. So when you start seeing C7s and eventually C8s the 2009 ZR1 will be just another outdated Corvette.
Still a great car and worth every penny of MSRP just not worth paying a premium.
