YOU WOULD THINK GM BODY SHOPS WOULD HAVE IT OR KNOW WHERE TO GET IT BECAUSE THEY OBVIOUSLY WOULD HAVE TO ASSUME THEY WILL END UP DOING SOME WARRANTY OR COLLISION WORK ON THEM AT SOME POINT.
did you hear me ok?

Actually, you are probably correct. I was thinking of the painted body but the clear on the color is just normal clear. Plus, CF really doesn't need to be color matched so the parts would come pre-painted. I stand corrected.
Actually, the UV-blocking chemical additive to the clear coat costs $60,000 a gallon and the clear coat with the additive mixed in comes to $2,000 a gallon. Really not that bad, $500 a quart.. I've used paints that cost $860 a quart... almost $3500 a gallon...
But as stated above, carbon fiber parts need to be replaced when damaged, not repaired..

you sure about that? (i mean, do you KNOW?) i know quite a few folks with CF race car bodies that repair them. there is a class held up at infineon for CF repair work. there are special tools you can buy to repair CF. my understanding is that it's not too different than fiberglass as far as repairs go.

OK, yes CF can be repaired, but the repaired area would stick out like a sore thumb as the CF is just cleared over, that is why GM would replace the CF panels. Except you could get away with the fenders being repaired as they are painted over anyways.
Makes me wonder about those MCM hoods that have the exposed CF. I have seen a number of them a few years old (even on the C5's) and the CF looks great. I wonder how long it takes to start breaking down without that additive?
"Looking at the side of the car, you will notice the roof and roof halo bar are carbon fiber. These parts have a special clear coat to protect against UV fading and degradation. Customers should be advised that deep scratches cannot be repaired with regular clear coat. If a deep scratch occurs, the panel must be replaced. Replacement parts will come with the clear coat applied"
