I thought the collector that won the auction at Barrett-Jackson has the 1st ZR1 but Jay Leno shows his car as having Vin # 0001. What gives ? Can there be more than one Vin # 0001 ? Who really has the First ZR1 ?

There are three VIN # 00001. I'll break it down for you.
VIN# 700001 was a "mule" car
VIN# 800001 was the first "dealer" car sold to Jay Leno
VIN# 900001 was sold at Barret Jackson to Dave Ressler for 1 million
There is only one ZR1 with a VIN ending in a 9000*

So 50 years from now which car is the first production ZR1 ? Resslers car has a unique vin while Leno's seems to follow the pattern of the pilot cars. It would be interesting to see some time stamped paperwork from the factory to see which car was produced first.

Leno's is the first of the model year production run. Ressler's is a one of one. Time will tell which one will be worth more. I would guess that neither of the owners really care.
The first of the first is obviously 700001- the Mule
Then Ressler's and then Leno's were produced.
Dave Ressler's raised his own bid from $ 900,000.00 to $ 1M in order to secure his bid. The money was raised for the United Way. His ZR1 is unique because it is one of a kind "Le Mans Blue" (only 1 made in that color).

My Corvettes. 63, 71, 73, 78.
That car probably is not complete, has multiple parts and various designs that are not found in the standard production cars, highly modified as a test platform, and might not even pass highway safety standards.

I sure would like to see it!
cheers!
I don't think it has been crushed. I have had two pilots. There were 60. I just sold #42 last week.
From what I see in the system, #1 is still alive and well somewhere !
GM didn't actually call these cars pilots. They were CTF ( Captured Test Fleet ) cars. The CTF were Manufacturing Validation Build Saleable vehicles. That is vehicles that GM built to confirm both the manufacturing
process and quality standards before they accepted dealer orders.
He also told you that C6Z06's are fast! DUMMY! GEESH!

Yes there is, but the tenth digit would be different. That's where the model year is indicated. For 2009, it would be a "9", and then starting for the 2010MY, it would be "A".
I think the complete VINs as posted earlier have an extra digit in there somewhere.
