Extended warranties are not all the same. Many companies won't make it through the recession. Be careful! Most of these start when the factory warranty ends. Just beware of weak companies. If it sounds too good to be true...it usually is. The factory plans are the most expensive and the best but GM has to survive to do any good. Most warranties are negotiable.
I highly doubt that any of the aftermarket companies will be offering a coverage for this car, there are only a handful that will offer it for the Zo6.
Also it does not matter if GM goes under as the GMPP warranties do not come from them anyway. GMPP is from GMAC who is not "owned" by GM. The only issue I see is that your dealer may not be around to do the repairs for you. To my knowledge GMPP is not able to be used at facilities other than a GM service center (but I could be wrong on that one)
GMPP for any Corvette Coupe , Convertible , Z06 , or ZR1 is a class
" D " Warranty available for about $ 3210 , sometimes less depending on what state you make the purchase in . Thats for a Six year / 100,000 mile Bumper to Bumper . Although its the only service contract endorsed by the General ( in some cases ) the work can be done at any reputable garage and then you apply for re-imbursement .
Just for the record , every GM dealer that earned a ZR1 also sent their # 1 Corvette Tech to school to learn all about the ZR1 . That mechanic also has the direct cell number on his/her phone to one of GM's engineers who participated in the construction of the ZR1 .
Why would you even consider letting Greasy George , the neighborhood rachet turner who puts transmission oil in the carb to clean it out work on your baby ?
It is called Major Guard by GMPP. 84 months / 56 K miles bumper to bumper. Each repair visit has a $200 dollar deductible. Once the part is replaced, if it fails again, there is no deductible on that part. There is also a plan available with zero deductible, but it was about $500 more. My plan cost $1490.
I also bought a tire and wheel warranty. It was only $790 and offers full replacement for wheels and tires with no deductible. That I thought was a bargain! If a tire gets cut or a wheel gets bent, they replace it, no repair.
