POLL: ZR1 Customers Do you want the Front Splash Guard?
Hi ZR1 Folks,
The Z06 customers are suffering severe paint damage around the rear brake duct area because there is no Splash Guard protection on the front wheel. We have made the Front Splash Guard for Z06 and the Z06 customers are very happy about it. Now they have peace of mind. They give us very high marks for this great product.
For ZR1, we guess you will have same or even worse paint damage problem because the ZR1 runs so fast.
So we are considering to make the Front Splash Guard for ZR1. We will offer either the standard Black Raw Parts or in Black Carbon.
Will you be interested in such Front Splash Guard for your ZR1? Please let us know your opinion.
Since we don't have pictures for ZR1 Splash Guard to show you, so we post some Z06 pictures for your reference so you can get some idea.
Am I correct in assuming that you have done some WIND TUNNEL testing of your splash guard to ensure that it does not disturb the negative pressure air flow that makes the front brake cooling ducts work? Or is this a cosmetic-only piece?
The deflectors in front of the wheels were designed by Corvette engineers to create that negative pressure.
I would think the side skirts on the ZR1 would provide the same benefit (stop stone chipping) as these splash guards while at the same time being aerodynamically beneficial? Am I correct in this thinking? I have a Z06 and would much sooner pay the extra cost of the side skirts under the assumption that I get both benefits.
So do ZR1s get the paint blasted off the side of their car the same way Z06s do?
Thanks for your opinion. Since most opinions are negative so we will pull the plug.
Some Z06 customers report that even they have the clear protective film but they still got some paint damage. Maybe ZR1 have the Side Skirt and it will reduce the potential paint damage. We will see.
Anyway, in the future if you guys feel there is a need for the Splash Guard please let us know and we can make it available.
Number 43 here. I've got about 6000 miles on mine and am not showing any signs of paint chipping or wear in that area. I did put the clear bra on the nose and agree, its the only way to go. Ryan @ Auto Paint Guard in Tampa is the best.
I purchased a set of the Z06 guards and modified them to fit the front fenders of my ZR1 - basically, you have to cut off a lot of the lower part of these guards to make them fit around the lower graphite running board - you have to run some extra screws into the far inside to hold them sturdy - I agree on the clunky looks of these guards but the Michelin Pilot tires pick up gravel and rocks like machine guns and sling it all back on the sides and rear air ducts - there is no way to adequately protect everything with clear shield, even the side of the fenders and doors - I don't like the fiberglass construction of these guards, it would be better done in hard rubber - they do fit well if you take some time - I put a line of black tape under the edge of the guard that contacts the fender to prevent scuffing the factory paint - its too bad that GM does not produce these guards, but these are better than chipped paint

OK, now we got the first report from ZR1 customer about the paint damage. I guess once ZR1 customers drive more mileage you will probably feel the same need. Let's wait and see.
Can you post some pictures so we can get the idea how it looks?
