The aftermarket guy is entitled to his opinion but that is all it is, an opinion . The truth of the matter is we are hearing unconfirmed reports that the ZR1 must be sidelined as part of the GM loan agreement ,at least until the loan has been repaid . . I wish I had allocation for more ZR1s because I can sell a few more . My last three that have $ 25,000 deposits have been pushed ahead to July build dates and just for the record although GM has presold orders for the 2010 Camaro numbering close to 10,000 already , the 22 that I have sold with substantial deposits have been pushed ahead to June due to problems with a supplier. I am not a vendor on this board but enjoy reading all of your
blogs / bickering / advice/ and the photos that accompany them .

It makes no sense to stop production of a profitable product. It also makes no sense to scrap a product after all the development costs. In the big picture of GM, the ZR1 is insignificant and I doubt Congress put conditions on the loan requiring GM to stop production of it. This is almost as ridiculous as the moron who compared the ZR1 market to the market for Van Gogh paintings.
BTW - Jason is a little better connected than your run of the mill aftermarket guy.
Has anyone else heard of any rumors that the new ZR1 will only be produced in 2009? Or is this just hype to push ZR1 sales?
GM has a lot of suppliers. In order to get the best prices, the vendors need to have some idea of how many items GM is going to want and over what time period.
FWIW. About a year ago, there was a quote (I can't find it now) from one of the GM engineers that GM comitted (to the vendors) to a 2 year production run of 4000 ZR1 vehicles. He specificly stated that there were no comittments beyond that.
I have no idea if it is true but this is the way our company works so it sounds good.

SO..... I am holding out for a 2010.
So would it be fair to speculate that chevy dealers already know there would only be a 2 year production run on the Z's, and that is why we are still seeing $25,000 mark-ups over MSRP on these vehicles? I too was in the market for a ZR1, but wanted to wait it out and see if prices would decline for the 2010 production year, but what you are saying is true, I might have to pull out the checkbook and be forced to pay the mark up!
The ZR1 is a fabulous car no doubt. However, so what if they cut back or stop production for awhile. There's always Lingenfelter or other top notch forum tuner available. Imho people get too worked up over the Z06 of a few years back & now the ZR1.

This man has it figured out! Relax and enjoy whatever vette your running. Horsepower and performance can be added to any production vehicle.
I am pretty sure it would be public knowledge if them halting production of the ZR1's was part of the bailout. It really makes no sense: wouldn't the Federal Government make them cancel production of all Corvettes. This is just a simple case of speculation to keep hype in a dried up market.

You are correct that GM stated a commitment for at least two production years for the ZR1. Hence I find it very unlikely that 2009 which will certainly be a shorten production run will be the only year considering supplier commitments for parts.
