Default New administration = the end of high horsepower as we know it?

Will the new administration force the automakers to push the CAFE and emission standards to the point where cars like the ZR1 and even the Z06 could be a thing of the past?

OH... God Bless The USA

Default The answer is yes!

We have ridden the performance wave, way past reality and now will have to let things cool off in the performance arena. I think technology will have to catch up to the brute force of todays performance cars and that will take a few years.

Those who think they will be buying a ZR1 for 5K-10K off window will be waiting a while (and I don't mean 6 months). This car is the last of a breed and Jay Leno will tell you the same. Get 'em while you can boys and girls cause the next cars coming out of Detroit will have the equivalent of the coffee cans of the '80's under the hood. I predict it will take about 10 years or more for technology to catch up and give us a car we really want. If I'm accurate the ZR1 will be worth whatever you paid for it. (maybe the exception will be that guy who paid 1 million for his?)

Maybe true on the CAFE laws. Still it seems odd given that Obamas previous car was a 300C with a V8. The biggest problem is the Democrat controlled congress with the likes of Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. If they have their way, a Prius will be the high hp car coming out of production.

LOL, there currently is a developing glut of crude oil to the point that the OPEC guys are running out of places to stash it. $1.50/gallon crushes the need to force our auto manufacturers to build cars that nobody wants. Most of the cars available are capable of acceptable gas mileage. Vehicles such as the ZR1 are hardly any kind of a target or on any logical legislators priority list.

It may be unwise to consider the ZR1 a collectable, instant classic because the Obama administration is going to halt their production in the near future. The ZR1 will be built in the numbers necessary to satisfy the available pool of capable buyers. Why do some enthusiasts have to convince themselves that each and every latest top of the line Corvette is the to be all, end all, never to be outdone, bar of gold. These cars will continue to see their new and used values decline until there is the next new and improved version available which will put a major beat down on the current models value. Sorry but a brief review of Corvette pricing and availability leaves no doubt regarding the fate of the ZR1.
