I just copied this from the Ferrari thread.
This may put somethings in perspective, given that you can now buy a Ferrari 430 for $140,000No axe to grind, just perspective. Best

Yeah, but the ZR1 has a cheap looking/feeling interior.

Wow! RBK, I cannot believe this post coming from you!

The justification for buying the ZR1 is the motor and suspension. If you have a C6Z (as I do) and you could buy a ZR1 for MSRP, it cost you (considering the trade in of the C6Z) about $65,000 less to modify your C6Z by adding a supercharger, exhausts, tune, and gauges (which I did) developing 565rwhp. It is not a ZR1, but to me, the C6Z has a cleaner look and even if you believe otherwise, that is allot of money for a see through hood and "pieces". Best

I believe their are objective criticisms to be made, ranging from the "patchwork" carbon fiber roof (forcing a contrast of colors that many like but is not my taste) to the "after thought" pieces of aerodynamic stabilizers ranging from rocker panels to front and rear spoilers, not to mention the see through "hole" in the hood which (from reports) does not fit all that well. I own 8 cars and have only one expectation of the Corvette - a fast hot rod. I have never asked it, not expect it, to be anything else. Clearly 565rwp (my car) is plenty for me and for those who wish to pay $120,000 or so for the same speed with the aforementioned "attachments", I find it hard to believe anyone would be "jealous". Congress will "loan" GM money with "strings" so as not to flood the unemployment lines with "union" members, and because GM would begin a domino effect of unprecdented proportions and too big for (a gotta be) apprehensive if not frightened new President elect.
The bad news is Obama, Reed, and Pelosi will "own" GM in exchange.
The ZR1 is not a priority and anyone who thinks it will increase in value may want to rethink.
Remember this is a President elect who wants to tax anyone owning a home over 2400 square feet (tents are flying off store shelves at Wal Mart).

I own both a Ferrari and a C6Z. There is no comparision. A Ferrari 430 is not as fast as a ZR1 but its torque and power curves are perfect for the street and its workmanship unmatched. After owninig late model Ferrari's, I can tell you they are reliable and cost about $2,000 a year to service.
Take a look at Europeans and then Americans. You will quickly see how we "earned" the "fat" title. Best

if you believe the numbers, there will be almost no cars available soon, as the factory is closed. having said that, kerbeck's slightly used zr1 that they are selling (about 600 miles) has been reduced about 5 grand by them in asking price-i think that they are about 138k, they were 143k. being a 3lz, that means they are looking for about 20 over, i guess-is that right? look, if i wanted one, and i had the money, i would just pay for it-justifying over 100 grand for any new vette is a stretch-don't try to convince yourself that 119k is a good deal, where 20 more is a bad deal.

But your ass won't know the difference - it will however notice the difference in the 0-150 mph run

Yup, it's the old Seiko vs Rolex argument. Some people like to march with the herd, others have the means and the desire to own unique toys.
But for this economy, in a few years there would have been a lots of ZR1's around. There will never be a lot of Scuderias on the street.
This gets so old after a while. Just enjoy your purchase, whatever it is, and get off of it already.
I thought the "headline" was catchy---- did not know my entire life would flash before me!
Still I like my C6Z and would not get rid of my Ferrari.
One of your "compilations" needs to be underscored. We are near 8% unemployment and going up. GM is and will be funded(I bought it at $2 and it is already over $4 and Obama has not taken office yet).
The ZR1 will continue to drop in price (not withstanding Bowling Green going out of business). Regardless, for those who want to keep a roof over their heads and maybe even buy a car at some point, plan on inflation.
The odds are overwhelming we will see inflation. To help better "feel" all this, below are examples of what a "Billion" means. Then contemplate a $10 Trillion debt to foriegn countries, including China providing some missles to those in Gaza (and understand why we can't just "tell them" to stop doing it).
A billion seconds ago it was 1959.
A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.
A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age.
A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth.
A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate our
government is spending it.
A good hedge against inflation are what is called Treasury Inflation Protection Securities).

you are correct. the zr1 may or may not be a car in short supply for demand in a few years, but you are right-enjoy your purchase. don't try to make sense of it. none of these cars make sense. at the end of the day, if you work hard enough/and or make enough, or are a member of the lucky sperm club and have inherited enough, buy it if you like it and don't try to make sense of it. if i had a bunch more money than i have, and if i wanted a zr1, i would just buy one. 135k, 115k, it doesn't matter.

On that note, a jewler let me try on a $32,000 Rolex watch just for the heck of it. This thing had what seemed like all the bells and whistles for a flashy watch. Despite the diamonds and white gold, I wasn't anymore excited about it than a normal watch, which actually have better warranties than that Rolex did. The Rolex only had a 1 year warranty, the shop threw in an extra year for purchasing it though.
Meanwhile I could buy a measely $99 dollar watch that takes time just well and has a 10 year warranty. Yeah yeah, I know it's not about durability when you're talking Rolex or in this case Ferrari, it's about displaying status. I've just never been the type that's got hung up on showing status or "look at me I'm different". Guess that's why I'll never understand the Ferrari worship.
I like them too but like a Corvette, they're just another great performing machine to me, not a scaled down version of god.
your quotes about the new president are silly at best.
I respectfully ask you enumerate the errors.
Spending will increase.
Production does not come from repairing roads and government projects.
Inflation occurs when too much money chases too few goods.
He cannot do it immediately but wants to expand unions which increases democratic votes by eliminating secret ballots.
Unemployment is rising which only decreases the tax base and requires such insane ideas as to increase gasoline taxes when people who are poor need to get to whatever job they can find.
We probably see things differently, at least that privilage is still in tact. Best

I do. They're pretty much handmade, many of them are strikingly beautiful and that sound. The sound of an F355 with a Tubi, there's little else like it...that's a MAJOR draw for me along with the marque's colorful and storied F1 history. Guys who buy them to pose it are disliked by most F Car enthusiasts.
I've owned 3 Corvettes, great cars, I'll get another at some point. But I've always wanted a Ferrari, it's been a goal since I was a kid. An F430 for $140k (and dropping) is a lot of car for the money IMO. Prices of F355s are right about where I need them to be right now.
This commercial pretty much sums up why I love them:

It's all about $$$. You either have it or you don't. $$$ gives you options. The more $$$ you have the more options you have. Having options is good.
$$$ can buy exclusivity. I recently sold my 08 Z06 for a 08 Viper. I see on the adverage anywhere from 2-10 vettes a day in Houston and they do look pretty much the same. I've seen one Viper in the last 3 weeks.
Along with owning a unique car, I'm enjoying the V-10 and the driving experience the car offers.
