I just got my January 2009 Motor Trend and they did a comparison of the Corvette ZR1 vs. Ferrari 599 GTB. For 1/3 of the price, they favored the ZR1 in most of the test categories. They felt the interior could be nicer (what a surprise) and the exterior looks too much like my C6 to be special, but for performance, the cars were very comparable.
After all testing, they gave the ZR1 first place with its outrageous speed, handling and brakes that simply embarrasses the competition. The new supercar king.
The Ferrari 599 GTB was at three times the price, not nearly three times the car, but still unmatched in sophisticated speen and sex appeal.
It's nice for a Corvette to be compared favorably with the Ferrari. Good job Chevy!!

The only difference is that the guy driving the Ferrari does not give a crap about what Motor Trend, or the ZR1 driver, thinks. If he wanted a ZR1 he would have bought one...... or 3.

I would imagine (since I can't afford one) that many of the guys who buy the Ferrari do so because of the name Ferrari. If you showed them that the ZR1 beat it in every catagory they would still buy the Ferrari because their ego says they have to have a Ferrari. But what the hell do I know. It's their money they can do what they want with it, even pay over MSRP.
first off a ferrari is a ferrari...the 599 is beautiful
Not hating on both cars cause I love both of them but Iam beggining to think a Intake/Tune Z can out run a 612+hp 599 GTB...
ZR1 whole diff story!

Yeah, but it won't drop the panties nearly as quick.

Since you are imagining things here, imagine that the guy with the 599 really appreciates the quality of the hand-built car he is driving, along with the drop dead gorgeous exterior and interior. He really could care less about the few tenths of a second faster that the ZR1 can be driven by a good driver. Performance is only one small measure of a car; even there the 599 ain't bad.
We know so much better that our car companies are a few weeks away from declaring bankruptcy.
I didn't say anything about the business model but rather I implied that when it comes to performance, value and "it" factor the Z06 & ZR1 have plenty and then some.
Ferrari and "value" should almost never go together in the same sentence. (Unless we are comparing against Pagani or Bugatti.) And that's probably the way Ferrari intended it.
Saw this article the other day. The 599's acceleration above 150 mph is certainly stronger, with both cars hitting 0-190 mph in about the same time, the 599 accelerating clear of the ZR1 at that point. Sort of surprising the 599 isn't that much faster. The German mags put its 0-186 mph time at 29.9 seconds, with the ZR1 at 36.6 seconds.

yeah the 599 faster f1 shifting and shorter gearing give it the edge above 150 mph...

Ferrari's should be compared with new corvettes, not even in the same world.
In the same issue they show the car of the year, the GT-R. Not a big surprise because the car is a monster (godzilla). If you look at there write up on the GT-R you will notice that there are many references to the ZR1's superior performance yet the ZR1 was not even a contender. Flip the page and the next article has the ZR1 beating a $350K Ferrari!
Now if that's not a hypocritical mag I don't know what is. How can they not be biased? Look at the specs, just flip the page. The ZR1 is clearly superior by there own measurements yet it's not even in the running? WTF?
Not that I don't agree with you about the MT COTY being a joke, but have they ever considered a car with a +$100K price tag for COTY. I know that one has never won that was priced that high. I wondered if that had some sort of price cut off?

Yes, they historically have a price cut off. IIRC it used to be 2 1/2 times the average purchase price of all new cars sold. I could be mistaken on that, but for some reason that does come to mind.
