Default differences between 1ZR and 3ZR

I can seem to find the specific differences between these features?
Does the 1ZR include telescoping wheel/HUD? If so, I don't see paying the extra $$ for the extra weight.

They are not building the 1ZR. 3ZR is 10 grand for a few updates like seats and a NAV. Prolly not much weight to worry about.

Corvette hasn't exactly went out of it's way to explain the differences either. I know I've tried to determine the extras you get with the 3zr and I think they have made it very difficult on purpose due to the 10K price tag. On the Chevy sight, they just list the extras together with all the other standard and optional equipment which makes it tedious at best to pick them out.

I like the look of the leather wrapped interior but could care less if I had heated seats, a navigation system and other things bundled with the 3zr. If they are not building the 1zr why even offer it as an option package? For me it's not the weight, it's spending 3K or 4K for a bunch of stuff I'll never use. Maybe Corvette will hear us and offer option packages for the ZR1 that are similar to those offered for the other Corvette models in 2010. Yeah right.

Download the 2009 Corvette Ordering Guide. It is in .pdf format and it clearly shows what is and what is not available in each package. It is available on the internet from other corvette enthusiast sites.

cheers!

Take a look here:

http://www.jeffhardy.com/lookupvette.php

Under "Model" select ZR1, leave all the other search parameters "Don't care", then hit the "Find 209 Corvettes" button.

You'll see a list of all the ZR1 Corvettes in dealer inventory.

Every one of them is a 3ZR.

I think that doesn't mean they won't build a 1ZR, rather it just means that every one a dealer is ordering under their allocations that hasn't been pre-ordered by a customer is being ordered as a 3ZR.

So.....I imagine if they're not building any in 1ZR trim, it's just because nobody is ordering them that way.

Butt.....I dunno for sure.

Bob

I really don't see any item in the 3ZR package that I couldn't live without. Particularly for $10K!!! This is a race car. Why add weight that you don't need? Not a lot of weight granted but it does add weight and every pound counts.

Thanks BEZ06 and others for the information concerning the 1ZR and 3ZR option packages. I'm not surprised that all the dealers are ordering the 3ZR for the ZR1s going into inventory. A 10K add on is great for GM and the dealers selling off the floor. I just wish I could get the factory leather wrapped interior without all the other do-dads. Oh well, life is like that some times.

It's NOT a race car. It's a really freakin fast GT car. The mass added by the luxury items included in the upgrades is of little concern.

I think it's sad that you have to pay extra for side airbags in a $110,000 car, ESPECIALLY a car that GM knows will be driven hard and fast. It's pathetic that you don't get a power seat for the passenger also. I don't think Mercedes sells a $110,000 car with a manual passenger front seat. Do they?

Z06 Sport is full of it. As of the first 300 built cars, only 1 was ordered as a 1ZR car. Dealerships realize there is more money % wise in profit in ordering a fully loaded car, and most people seem to want a fully loaded car for resale.

You can order a 1ZR or a 3ZR.

No. I pound pavement on the local road course AND use my car as a daily driver.

The ZR1, like all factory Corvettes, is first and foremost a road-going GT car. It's not a factory-built race car. Any thoughts otherwise are pure folly. And, because its primary role is that of a road-going car, it has luxury options available for it.

If you want a drag racer, build one. It'll be cheaper and probably faster.

with jas!!!

My Z06 is a GT car, and if I ever get a ZR1 it will be a GT car as well.

I thrash the hell out of the Z06 on the track, it's a daily driver around town, and I've done a number of long road trips in it. That's exactly what I'd do with a ZR1 if I get one - it would see plenty of track time, but it wouldn't be a race car.

You can make an all-out race car out of any Corvette, but mine remain streetable GT cars.

Here's a cut-n-paste from Wikipedia:
Characteristics
Grand tourers differ from typical sports cars (e.g. Lotus Elise, Porsche 911) in that they are usually larger, heavier (sometimes more than 3,500 lb (1,600 kg)), and tend to make less compromise in comfort for the sake of driving ability. For this reason, most have front-mounted engines, which leave more space for the cabin than mid-mounted engines. They tend to have softer suspensions to provide good ride quality. They also provide bigger storage space and more accessories. However, grand tourers do have similarities with sports cars, such as their use mainly of rear- or four-wheel drive, and the term sports car may be used to describe a car with grand touring qualities. Very high-performance grand tourers, such as the Aston Martin DB9, Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano, Nissan GT-R and the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, may be considered to be supercars.

Because of their powerful engines, grand tourers can still compete with many sports cars in top-speed and acceleration. However, in terms of handling they are a magnitude below sports cars, because of their weight and softer suspension. Grand tourers excel at high speed, long distance travel, or races, and make more practical daily drivers than sports cars.

Classification
In certain professional motorsport classifications, such as the Grand Touring categories promoted by the FIA, the GT car is defined as "an open or closed automobile which has no more than one door on each side and a minimum of two seats situated one on each side of the longitudinal centre line of the car; these two seats must be crossed by the same transversal plane. This car must be able to be used perfectly legally on the open road, and adapted for racing on circuits or closed courses."

Using the above definition, it is still valid to place sport cars such as the Corvette and the 911 in the grand touring category since they do contain many, if not all, the amenities of a grand tourer. However, this weakness in motorsport classification sometimes blurs the line of what is considered a true production grand tourer, and may lead to mis-classification.

I bet not too many ZR1's will be turned into track-only race cars.

Bob
