Default Credit crunch brings ZR1 prices down

Due to the credit problem, the average price of a new ZR1 this week is down to $8,000-$10,000 Over MSRP. I have refused 2 ZR1's today from dealer's ready and hoping to sell. The finance manager told me that many people want the car, but most have a "hiccup" on their credit report preventing their loan approval, he also told me that the cash buyer's have cashed out. SO MSRP is not too far down the road.

PS..My friend Sonny Kilgo in Bowling Green..I'm sure many remember him as the best customer relations guy ever at the plant, told me "they are making plenty of ZR1's"

You must want a Gray or Black ZR1 they make up most of the ZR1's sitting on the ground, it looks to me that the grey has been over ordered. I have had ZR1's offered to me at $10K over but they must be ordered as Red and Yellow are harder to find. But I do agree with you MSRP shouldn't be far off.

Imho black of course is always great, but although the dark grey has been hot for a little while, it may not be good for resale long term( looks like Honda gray to me & and I wouldn't own one in that color) But that's just me.

Black is my color but blue is growing on me. I wonder if the blue is as hard to clean as my black one.

Default I have a cancellation , no waiting ! 7:50 pm

I dont know if I'm allowed to sell a car on this forum so If I'm not I'll abide by the rules and not sell . I have a cancellation that was supposed to be picked up tomorrow @ Bowling Green . Its the Cyber Gray loaded up , MSRP around $ 117,000 I believe . I just got the call while I'm at the mall having dinner with the Family so I dont have the exact options in front of me . The Boss says $ 20,000 plus tax tag and fees over buys it . Alan I'm in Florida and its quite chilly tonite !

I don't think you are going to find anyone on this forum that is going to pay $20,000 over when they have already turned down $8-10,000 over (look at the top of this post).

I know that you are not the person that set the sales price but you might want to tell your boss what is happening in the real world.

I think the prices will continue to drop because more ZR1 is being produced and delivered. Noticed all the buyers dropping out.

Best of luck to you anyway.

Tell your boss to keep dreaming, I'm not sure the current inventory would sell fast at 5k over right now. The people who had to have the car and could not wait are now gone. Everyone else that wants one is willing to wait. Most of the "over MSRP" buyers have purchased or have dropped out due to economic woes.

When your boss gets in line with the real value his ZR1 holds, then I'm sure he will sell it. But for now, I think he'll have to get used to looking at it on the showroom floor.

Where do you get statistics on how much they are selling for?

On October 17th, someone started a post here that said there were 35 ZR1's on dealer lots and he was hoping inventory was building. On November 15, 4 weeks later, someone posted that they were now "piling up" with 40 units on dealer lots. In that same 4 weeks they produced 160 more cars. I just checked and there are now 36 cars on dealer lots after another 80 cars were produced.

I have no way of knowing what those cars are actually selling for but I think at this point their production is just barely keeping up with sales. So I wouldn't get too excited about msrp just yet. I still say that msrp won't happen until national inventory is about 160 units.

I was thinking we would "begin" to see MSRP at about 75 units on the floor, and probably MSRP would be the norm if there were about 150 cars available. But, at this time, it's nothing but speculation.

At the current rate of production there will be about 1400 cars produced this year. My car #506 will roll of the line 12/08/08. The plant is closed for three weeks starting 12/23/08. Do the math and that's it (unless they increase production and so far on this forum and elsewhere, that has not been disclosed, GMs position has been production is limited my carbon fiber and engine build limitations). Don't forget there's about 200 units for Canada and Europe. There are plenty of people with cash who are waiting to see when this economy is going to turn. They are not going to spend it until then. And lastly, don't forget, it's the worst time of the year traditionally to sell cars. People are worrying about travel plans, turkey and the fat man in the red suit. MSRP could be not to far off for some as certain dealers will sell for that and others not.

The credit crunch is bringging banks down, it's only a question of time when the car will be selling under MSRP.

Tell "the Boss" $20,000 Over MSRP is a price of the past

I will give him $7,000 OVER TODAY since the car is at the NCM

Actually, I figured when no one picked it up at the NCM, that they would then in turn ship it to the purchasing dealer.
