Tires? Exhaust? I don't think modifying the tune will go over so well if the motor pops.

Basically if you mod it and the mod is the cause for a failure then your out of luck.

As far as I can tell. Talking to many dealers. The answer is definately no!! Every one I have discussed this with says that would void the warantee in a heartbeat.

if you have to ask...you wouldnt understand. most of the time any mods you make will void the warranty if the dealer can prove that the mods contributed to whatever failure you had. you start to get into a pretty gray area and it will most likely depend on how cool your dealership/service manager is. good luck!

Your probably right that the dealership has to prove that the mod caused the failure, but lets bring it back to the basics. If you are asking if something may void the warranty, the deep down inside you know that there is a possibility that the warranty would be voided.

Just look at it this way, If you go to Vegas and just watch craps, then you will never loose (you may actually learn something). If you jump in the game you may win, but you better be prepared to loose all you got on the table. Same goes for playing with mods on a new car.

You can tweek this and change that, or sit back like I'm doing, watching people experiment. However if you play, you might have to pay, and pay dearly. Of course the Magnusson-Moss warranty act says that no manufacturer can void the warranty of a car just by the presence of replacement parts unless they can claim that the part caused the failure. Example, an air box you installed did not cause your passenger side seat motor to burn out. But do you really have the time, resources, and lost time with the car to fight the dealer and/or GM. Sure you might be right 9 ways to Sunday, but it's your money that your throwing into the legal system to fight and your time you might be wasting. Not to mention the depreciation on the asset you are not currently enjoying.

Look at it this way. You want to lean her out? Bump the revs? Bang up the boost, etc? Then have 20 thousand laying around ready to fork over for an new LS9 crate engine and install. It's that easy. Don't just say you would just fight it, because you would spend more in money and time fighting in court to MAYBE prove your right. If you didn't touch the engine and it blows then you know you will be ok.

A lot of test pilots died in various aircrafts along the way so ultimately the big Airbus 380 could one day take to the sky. None of those pilots thought they would ultimately meet their demise, but some did.

Those ready to be test pilots, please step forward....

There are old pilots and bold pilots, but there are no old bold pilots.

cheers!

SAVE $100
Let’s face it, the car is close to perfect except for a few items.

My Ultimate ZR1 upgrade includes my famous Mild2Wild wireless exhaust control. A 3min plug n play will allow you to open your bi-mode exhaust at anytime or just set it back to OEM operation all with the press of a wireless FOB. CLICK TO PLAY THE VIDEO

Next we add 100% real carbon fiber shift knob (a direct OEM fit). This knob will match the rest of the car perfectly. It's a simple install (instruction on my site) and takes only a few minutes. We then add a 100% carbon fiber rear plate frame to match your other carbon fiber parts

Last but not least is the only ZR1 licensed floor and deck mats shipped direct from Lloyds. Your choice of colors.

Separate Retail Prices
Mild2Wild = $99 (tools included)
Carbon Fiber Shifter Knob = $99
Carbon Fiber Frame = $45
Front ZR1 Mats (pair) $117
Rear ZR1 Deck Mat $145

Now for the mega deal, all 5 parts are $505

Take all 5 items and save over $100 = $405 + shipping

There was a bulletin issued to all dealers highlighting some of the tips and tricks of a ZR1. Some highlights:

GM spent a couple of paragraphs on the warranty topic. Any modifications to the ECM, drivetrain, intake, exhaust, tires and brakes void the warranty on that item and any related failures. Any verifiable indications that the car was tracked voids the warranty for any related failures.

The splitter and side rockers are very fragile. Inspect them pre and post dealership service. Very expensive to replace. Most lifts at dealers are too high for the ZR1 ground clearance. Secondary ramps are needed. So make sure you check for damage when picking up your car. If the CF gets deep scratches it cannot be patched with new clear coat, it must be replaced, If not replaced it will look bleached out.

Do not wax or polish any of the carbon fibre surfaces unless you use a black wax. White wax or polish will leave white spots in the micro depressions on the CF.

Do not use any type of wax, polish or solvent based cleaner on the Hood Window. It has a thin UV coating that is easily damaged

DO NOT let any type of wheel cleaner, tire cleaner or tire dressing touch the Rotors. The liquid will soak in and damage the rotor. Very expensive to replace. Only wash wheels with soap and water.

Rotors are also subject to chips if hit with the wheels. So any service involving wheels make sure you provide the rotor protectors sold with the car and make sure you pre and post inspect with a service writer.

The clutch is also very different. It has a stiffer feel than the Z06 and will continue to require more force as it wears. The clutch is not covered by warranty. Once again, expensive to replace. It also requires a special tool to replace correctly. If the dealer doesn't use the alignment tool, the new clutch and or driveline can be damaged.

Front tire squeal and noise is common due to width and it can sound like differential chatter resonating from the rear in some cars.

Most of the other comments involve additional oil capacity, half shaft size differences, new speed sensor and general service items.

Overall, my take is that anything out of warranty like CF Splitter, Brakes and Clutch will be big bucks to replace.

As a final note, the dealers were instructed to treat the King of the Road like a King and to show utmost respect to the car and it's owners. GM recognizes the financial commitment made by the owners of the ZR1's and want the dealers to act accordingly. I'm not affiliated with any dealership, I just got to read the document.

Read this a couple of times to get the gist of factory warranties and what the federal law says on the matter. GM CAN NOT void the entire vehicular warranty because you've made a modification. What they can do is deny a specific warranty claim.

For instance, if you add headers to the car, and the O2 sensors start throwing funny codes, the dealer could decide to charge you for the new O2 sensors. But that's it. That's where it ends. They can not void the entire vehicle's warranty.

It's against the law for them to do that. Any dealer that tells you otherwise is wrong.

If GM can prove a part needs to be replaced because of a tune, etc, they can refuse to pay for it under warranty. But if they cannot or if a different part needs to be replaced, they much replace the parts under warranty.
