Stock ZR1 Dyno Sheet 559whp
This is my Dad's car shortly after break-in. We were both pretty happy with the numbers, I'm also curious to see how it'll do at the track. Bone stock the ZR1 makes only 1hp less than his modded Z06. I haven't had a chance to drive it since it's been broken in so I'm very anxious to see how it compares.

Looking at these numbers then leaping to "must be underrated" is possible the most retarded thought process imaginable...

Motors are pre broken in. You are breaking in the tranny and rear on the car. Hell, Most real race motors are "broken in" with 1/4 mile passes.

When will you people stop thinking this and start understanding that if ANYTHING it is the chassis dyno that is _overrated_ compared to the SAE certified engine dyno result...

I break in all my cars this way, right out of the dealership, it gets romped. In 2000, a freind and I both bough exact sixpeed coupe, only difference was color. I beat the crap out of mine on break-in he babied it. when we would go at it, I would always ull 2-3 cars on him. It wasnt the drivers. We would start from a dead stop, staring in second gearat a light, still pulled him by 2-3. Driving a car harder makes the computer take a more aggressive program.

Tolerances in modern motors are so close that variances in HP are usually no more than 1% or less.

I just don't get it. You have some pretty sharp automotive engineers telling you how to break in a car. Why not listen to what they tell you. There just might be a reason.

My Dad and myself both break in cars the same. We follow the manufacturers recommendation, while still driving the car like we normally would. At least this way the break in period isn't a complete bore. I also do an oil change after the first 1k miles.
Several people also mentioned that many race engines get broken in at the strip or on the dyno. You also should consider that many of those motors get broken down periodically and rebuilt. They aren't expected to get 100k miles out of them.
