Default Are there any ZR-1s out yet?

I am from Marin County in California and my friend called me to tell me this. Says that his buddy saw a ZR-1 cruising around near his house (very rich city). My buddy said BS and that there is NO WAY that they are even being produced yet beacuse they are not due to start until July I believe. He said he knew it was a ZR-1 because of the window on the hood.

I call TOTAL ..there is no way somebody could ahve gotten their hands on one right? Isn't it still undergoing crash safety testing too?

There was a thread posted just recently that stated four ZR1's were produced this last week and all went to GM's proving ground.

A pic is worth a thousand words!!

I saw a Z-06 weeks before "production" driven by a GM Engineer. I am sure a few ZR-1's are being driven by (probably GM) somebody('s) as this is written. No big surprise and standard procedure. To answr the question, we know one was bought at auction and is either sitting on a showroom floor or on the road somewhere. Best

Default ZR1s driving around town ?

Guys Please ! I've sold hundreds of Corvettes in the sunny South and can guarantee you there are no ZR1s driving around . We have yet to receive the order guides . There are a few rich South Beach dudes that have added a see -thru glass to the hoods of their 08 Z06s to draw eyes but thats where it ends . Also , a senior member mentioned in an earlier post that " we all know the first Corvette ZR1 that was sold at a charity aution for 1 million must be driving around somewhere. That was not what was sold . What was sold was the " right to a limited one time only production of a blue ZR1 " YET TO BE BUILT . I personally have sold two at $ 75000 over MSRP which we all know has yet to be officially announced .

Just because YOU have not seen any ZR1s doesn't mean that there aren't any lingering around somewhere in this country.

You can hang around Bowling Green and see them. Just like they did with the Z06. They build about a dozen or so for executives to drive around everyday to test wear and tear, normal useage etc.

One of their top directors gave me a drive in Z06 months before it was released because I happened to be at the same restaurant in Bowling Green. Very friendly people.

Same here I saw a few Z06s before production all had cb antennas and guys with laptops in passenger seat. So it is possible there are ZR1 driving around, I just doubt they were sold to the public.

So we go from a American sports car that has been confirmed for production later this year, to little green men from mars? Wow. Foolish way to try and counteract my point. And the worst part is, it wasn't even funny.

You obviously have not eaten at the McDonalds in Milford, MI a lot. The Z06 mules Were driven on the streets before the cars for sale were made. However, I would be surprized if and ZR1s are in California.

I was just funnin with ya. I'm sorry you didn't appreciate my odd sense of humor. I seriously DOUBT the poster saw what he said he saw, but it certainly is possible that he saw a test mule running around. Not likely but possible.

I'd be more willing to believe someone added a window in the hood rather than a "production" car in the wild.

As we all know, pre-production cars are driven all the time, but mostly you'll see them near the factory or at one of the proving grounds. Not in CA.

Not all cars are tested at a proving ground or near the factory. For years GM had a testing facility in Manitou Springs, CO. Over the years I've seen many different cars and trucks all decked out in camo with all types of testing equipment installed. The facility had a drive on scale and a metal building full of test equipment including bags of sand for weighting the cars. Manitou Springs is west of Colorado Springs, close to Pikes Peak. I'm not sure if the facility is still being used as the last time I drove by it, the scales and the metal building were gone, and no cars/trucks were around. The facility was located in the downtown area of Manitou Springs on the north side of Manitou Ave and the entrance was from Park St next to the arcade. It wouldn't surprise me to know that GM has other facilities for specialized testing were cars that are not yet in production are tested on public roads.

I just got back form Bowling Green late last night. I went on the plant tour and asked when the production would start on the ZR1. I was told it looks like August is when it will start. I did see this behind the fence.

Back to plan B...work harder...

Plan C ...marry a wealthy one...

Old reliable Plan D...wake up...I'm dreaming again...
