I was talking to my friend's younger brother the other day and he told me that his parents will be getting him a ZR1 as a high school graudation present. The guy is only 17 years old at the moment and he told me that his parents are first in line at one of the Chevrolet dealerships in So Cal. I don't know if he may be lying to me but his older brother drives a BMW 3 series, a Lexus IS, and a Mercedes E-Class. They belong to one of the wealthiest suburbs in So Cal so anything is possible.
He'll wrap it around a tree (or something just as bad) because he'll have NO CLUE how to drive a car with that kind of performance (nor will he have the maturity to not race his friends on the street).
It's sad that parents would give him a loaded weapon like that to inflict harm on himself and other innocent bystanders as well.
I am betting that when he crashes it his girlfriend or boy friend will be dead too....if these parents realy get him a ZR1 or any other FAST Vehicle they either are completely stupid or they are expecting a HUGE INSURANCE CHECK 3 days after he is burried.
Maybe you should direct his parents to the replies to this postng of yours...maybe they will wake up and realize that it isnt the best decision they could make buying their child a 3200lb bullet.

Y'all seriously need to shut the f*ck up unless you personally know this family. He might be some spoiled brat who will crash it the first day, but he might also be like some of my friends who grew up around nothing but cars and have done driving schools and track days. You know nothing about this kid or his background or lifestyle so none of you have any room to criticize him. Now if someone comes on here that knows him and knows he is a spoiled f-up, then I retract my statement. I just hate people who judge other when they don't EVEN know ANYTHING about them.

*end of rant*
people have seen it happen to many times before, thus the replies....
for what its worth....i doubt he is different than any other 17 year old...
i can say that because i was 17 once....very inexperienced
good judgement comes from experience....experience from bad judgement....
i had all sorts of bad judgement at 17....as everyone else...
Location: One thing is for sure this kind of discourse and BS would not be tolerated on the NCRS forum. NJ.

I know the family and the younger brother is a smart kid. He got accepted into all the top schools in California including Stanford, UCLA, and USC but will be attending UC Berkeley this fall. I think we shouldn't judge people just because they are young. There are some kids out there who are more mature and intelligent than you think.
"shut the f*ck up"??? This is a thread on a public opinion forum.
The OP started a thread about an unknown person. None of us know him, so on a PUBLIC OPINION FORUM, the best we can do is offer opinions based on our own personal experiences and on the statistics. And statistics say that 90% of the 17 year old boys would fit into the grim predictions posted here.
I'm in no way calling the kid an idiot. He may indeed be a great guy. But the statistics are against this story having a happy ending. I sincerely hope he's the exception. No matter his age, he's a fellow Corvette enthusiast, and I don't want to see a brother hurt.

Please ask the person in-question join the forum and post his experiences with the vehicle, once delivery takes place.
His posts, and anecdotal accounts of the vehicle will be interesting, to say the least.
And, of course, youtubes are welcome (within forum guidelines).
Questions for the future CF poster:
1) Is this your first car?
2) Do you enjoy driving, in general - or are cars just an accessory to your lifestyle?
3) Do you have a rudimentary grasp of physics, traction, and reality?

Statistics are heavily in favor of this being a bad outcome. And that is all that we need to know. And that is all that the insurance companies care about as well. They don't know the kid and frankly don't care. Statistics say that it is a very bad risk.

I'm led to believe that perhaps some people are jealous about that(that's to say if even the story is true). The possibility that this kid is more mature than some of our older members is quite possible.
