I decided that I wanted to take a look at a Shelby GT500 yesterday. So, I called Ford to ask where in Dallas there were some verts to look at. After I got that list, I asked if they knew who was getting allocations for the GT500KR. What she told me was a "jaw dropper". Ford, in its wisdom, decided that they would take any dealer "qualified" by sales and service and put them in a bin and do a lottery. The net result, not one Dallas or Ft. Worth dealer will get one. There is one in San Antonio, one in Tyler (how could that be?) one in Abiline and, well you get the idea.
This allocation scheme almost guarantees that there will be hugh premiums paid over MSRP as the big dealers will be trying to buy a car from these guys in the really small markets.
Anyway, please GM, don't do something this stupid.

Sounds a little fixed. I bet California and Florida will be the lucky winning dealers.

I've been trying to figure this out for awhile. Considering both Ford and GM are in dire straights, it would probably make sense to sell as many cars as possible. If they're thinking that by only selling small numbers it will improve brand equity, they're wrong... very wrong.

A loaded GT500KR will MSRP for $80K plus a $50K dealer markup.
I went to the Oklahoma City car show last week and there were 4 Mustangs in the Ford area. One was a GT500 with special Shelby badging and parts. A local dealer rep who knows his stuff told me that the msrp on a standard GT500 was 48K. The list on this Shelby version was 79K and they plan to get 50-55K over.
Yikes. The msrp is 8K more than the msrp on my 07 Z06.
If some want a GT500 I have one that might be available when the ZR1's arrive. Send me a PM if interested.
