It generated positive interest and many inquiries on orders from Corvette Europe..it will cost over 200K for a European. The Z06 sells for 150K, though that didnt stop a swiss friend from reserving a ZR-1 with GM Europe. I do believe the aggressive overseas marketing of the car has enhanced its reputation in the world market. The car is always sold out and is popular at racing events throughout Europe.
Just to note, the Corvette received its own booth (with a Z06, base model, and C-6R race car) as its marketed as its own brand, and not a chevrolet..which is interesting. Im looking forward to seeing it again at Le Mans,France.
The view of my friends who own corvettes is that they like them because they have so much low end torque, and they have a throaty sound to them, and of course, because they are "american"..big engines, big tires, and no frills that makes it...something different. Some even venture to buy one because, even with the import tax, its still much more affordable than a Porsche or Ferrari, and when we head out to the track it makes for a great battle.
European cars are known for their high revving smaller engines, excellent handling, elegant interiors, and a different exhaust note. Its something different for them, and they appreciate that...in the same way a Porsche or Ferrari is an eye catcher at home because it is so "european". They are very excited to see the ZR-1 when it makes it debut.
How do Europeans contrast the car to the Porsches and the like or do they even make comparisons?
The Z06 has been VERY well liked in Europe and get more attention than almost any Porsche or Ferrari because it is rarer which maybe is crazy for you in America to realize. Magazine like Sport Auto have shown the good lap times.

Guess what, world. Corvette really IS ITS OWN BRAND. You think they need Chevrolet to exist?

They do need Chevy's backing to exist. In fact the corvette still exists and is produced at an affordeable price because it shares the same platform as a Cadillac. in Europe, the dealerships are called Corvette/Cadillac.
The point I was making is that the rest of Chevrolet is not really sold or even marketed to europe..just the corvette. It my kind way of saying the rest of the lineup isnt very interesting...but my European friends are excited about the new Camaro..so maybe that will change.
