My premise is that once GM prices a Corvette at $100,000+ comparisons change from Mustangs to Ferrari's.
Respectfully, a couple of questions for those who have the money and will spend $100,000 or or more on a car this year. Let us presume we can get the ZR-1 at MSRP (and avoid all the digressions about market pricing).
So the questions -
Will you be spending the $100,000+ on a ZR1 or something else? If something else, what else are you seriously considering?
In my case, I (finally) decided this week to supercharging my Z-06 rather than continue to entertain being the first on my block to own a ZR-1. I have one garage space at the moment and may fill it with a Maserati Granturisimo. Best
I am only considering the ZR1 since I am a lifelong corvette fan. And my ZR1 will be a DD. However, I am far enough back on the pre-order list that it is rather unlikely I will be getting a 2009. I am very happy to daily drive my 06Z06 for another year or two.

Even base Corvettes have not been seriously compared to Mustangs for about the last decade. Base Corvettes are rountinely compared to Porsche's 911 (See Road & Track, Car and Driver, Automobile, Motor Trend) which was the car's target.
The C6 Z06 (and to a lesser degree the C5 Z06) has already and long since been compared to Ferrari's offerings with results so pointed that some magazines report that Ferrari is in effect refusing to facilitate further meetings.

Nope, not spending it on anything else. I will wait for the ZR1 next year if I can get it at MSRP. For this year, I am looking at replacing our XC90 SUV with a Range Rover Supercharged. Hope I can dodge the grim reliability stats I see for the marque.

Did not mean to degrade Corvette - just a off the top of my head comparison.
Regarding SUV's, we have a large dog we bought a jeep to transport in 2002 and are so pleased with it, after visiting BMW, Mercedes, Volkswagen, Land Rover, and Lexus, are about to buy another. With the 5.7 "hemi" motor and 4wheel drive, plus everything from heated seats and zeon headlights, with full leather and a (virtual) "lifetime" gaurantee, the car will cost mid $30,000. It really is worth a look. Thanks for answering question(s). Best

Great choice on the Jeep. My brother-in-law had one and loved it. I just asked the wife what she wanted and she is insistent. Oh well. It has "free" maintenance for four years. Think it will need it given its reliability ratings.
Let me know how the Maser works out. One of my friends has one (with the old transmission unfortunately) and loves it.
I think you also have a Bentley GT, LOVE that car. Just love it. Had one for a weekend and was blown away. Have to love a 2+2 coupe that outweighs our seven-passenger XC90 SUV. And the fuel "mileage"! At one point I swore there was a hole in the tank. I would still buy it if I could. Drive it in good health.
The ZR1 w/the 4LZ option is the complete package!!
There is nothing closely priced that offers all that performance w/great exotic looks, a fairly nice interior, exotic materials, nice ride quality, technology, etc.
If Porsche made a car like this, they would obnoxiously(like they do all of their cars) price it around $180K. If Ferrari makes a similar car(which they do), it would be around $275K.
It boggles my mind how people cannot grasp the value in this car. There are just some people out there that like to put down Corvette's b/c the car is priced lower than other high-end sports/super cars. The car and the brand has enough credentials to be in the same league as those others, but it comes w/a bonus of a lower price.
Definately ZR1 all the way.....It's American and nothing IMHO comes close for the price and value....
The questions(s). Are you buying a car this year for over $100,000 and if so are you going to buy the ZR-1- and if not what else are you considering. If you are not, your response is of no value to this thread (no disrespect intended). Best
Well I admit I was HOT for the ZR-1. After seeing it in the flesh, my enthusiasm has cooled considerably. But I want to stay on-topic so let's not digress...
I'm thinking either a Stradale (they ain't making any more, and it is pure Ferrari) or a Viper ACR (pure sex).

I'm putting in my reservation for the passenger seat on either one.
You need to act fast . . . the Autobahn opens soooooon!
I'm going to buy a 2004 SRT10 viper with low miles for $52,000 and a new C6 lt1 Z51 and put the STS twin turbo kit on it 42,000$ + 7000$
Rats I went over by 1000$

I have a deposit on a ZR1 at a local dealer for MSRP, Mine is the only deposit taken since dealer doesn't know for sure if he will be allocated even 1 ZR1. I'm a life long corvette fanatic and missed out on the 1st ZR-1's (too expensive). If my dealer doesn't get a ZR1 I'll probably order an '09 loaded coupe. Nothing against a Z06, I just like a removeable top. I know, the ZR1 doesn't have a removeable top, but it is a ZR1.

I have the means and may or may not drop 100 large on a car this year. I bought 2 08 Z's and an '02 last year so I don't know if the ZR1 is "worth it" to me.
Actually, I'm really perplexed about it.
I see the most likely (knowing me...) scenario as this:
Next year the price for the ZR1 becomes more reasonable and I've probably driven one, or at least ridden in one by that time, and I'll probably pull the trigger then (assuming it's a great riding/driving car and it isn't plagued with problems).
Worth noting: The gentleman above who said that if Porsche or Ferrari had an offering like this it would cost $275K - I haven't read truer words all year. It most likely is the most incredible bargain EVER in car history. Literally.
number one thing in my mind, and I know its wrong: The car looks VERY similar to its $40k brother, a stock C6.
Spending that much money is tough on a car that looks so similar, no matter how it performs. In my mind its similar to owning a modified Honda. Yes it can go amazingly fast, but it looks just like a normal honda. Exotics command their price because of exclusivity and rarity.
So far 5 people indicate ability and all but one ambivilance, 6 including myself. I am sure GM will sell cars, but it seems two things are true; those who "would buy it in a minute" cannot afford the car (not unusual to "love"or cover the unobtainable) and (again consistent with real life), those who have a $100,000 may be infatuated, but not rushing out to buy a ring just yet.
