Ive had a deposit on the ZR1 for about a year and a half now. I thought i read on the forum last week that dealers have begun getting their allocations but i may be wrong. I called the dealer that has my deposit and they said they haven't head anything yet.

July 14th may be the official production start date, but they are building them in Bowling Green in small numbers right now. I saw ZR1 parts stationed at numerous places on the production line yesterday. Most of them were covered up, but I got to see a few unimportant carbon fiber parts. One of the workers I talked to said he was expecting a ZR1 later that day. The talk was they were scheduled to build 4-5 this week, and like 3 next week.
I don't know, maybe it is all subterfuge but I definitely saw a bunch of ZR1 tags all along the line. I also have no idea if they are stockpiling these somewhere. For all I know they could be crash dummies, but it was interesting how they were hiding a lot of the stuff.

They've got to have production test cars to check quality, as well as fit/finish. Also, the early production cars will most likely be used for crash testing and "actual" production cars for the press to play with.
When they are finished with them, they will pull all high-dollar parts (motor/trans, etc.) off of them and crush the rest.

That's my wedding anniversary. Something new to put on my wish list.

These are surely pre-production pilot cars being built to be driven by GM staffers to accumulate real world miles to look for defects as well as checking for assembly line production problems. No mystery here. GM does this all the time with new car roll-outs.

surprised there are no pics of them out there yet from someone in the factory
No surprise whatsoever. Cameras and camera phones are expressly prohibited within the assembly plant. You sign an agreement to that effect to get in. GM has already had too many incidences of unauthorized photos being taken and spread over the internet.

They are also unauthorized to take a picture of an innocent girls peeing on the toilet in a public restroom, but the internet is full of them.
