Default ZR1 orders

How many of you guys have a ZR1 on order???? What are the chances of really getting delivery.. Do you have it locked with a price? I am looking into it.

...only 1500 for sale in the US - 500 overseas ~ 1st year production will go quick. Lots of folks on the waiting lists ~ pricing is still anyones call.

What's the thinking on this??? 1/4 of all made going overseas. I would think GM being an American Company would satisfy the American customers before sending them elsewhere ,where it will cost more to transport them to.But then again I don't feel we should be supporting foreiners either. But that's another story.

GM's market share is declining in the USA, and GM has pretty much written off the US market as a high growth arena for the company. GM market share is rising in some overseas markets, with large growth potential in many others. So they're using the ZR1 as a market opener in order to help build market excitement and market share in those overseas markets.

, sort of.

GM is using the ZR1 as the launching pad for its entry into parts of the world where it's only competed previously with things like Opel and Saab. The ZR1 is easily comparable with Ferrari, etc., and GM is trying to get them overseas to burnish its image. Plus, as dog said, the US is not a growth market now anyway.

Even if you could be assured of getting one is the ZR1 really worth the $150K - $200K it may end up costing? I don't think so...that's a hefty premium for status. For less money I would be driving a modified Corvette that IMO would be 'better' than the ZR1. The ZR1 is a neat car and all that but really......

I have a signed agreement to buy a ZR1 from my local dealer @ MSRP whatever that ends up being. He does sell a few Corvettes. Whether he even gets an allocation for a ZR1 is uncertain. I certainly hope so but am only giving it 50/50 odds.

Local salesmen are not only full of crap but they also invent crap. I think they all go to the same training school to learn the same line of BS and lies. A local dealer is the least reliable source of info on vettes you will ever find. To hear the best lines here in Houston, just go to Bill Turd and/or LandShark (they belong to the same auto group).

Default A few things are certain with the ZR1........

1) Speculators and the Internet, will drive the price to ridiculous levels in the first 6 months. By 2010 model year, prices will be at MSRP. If you don't believe this, name one modern high end sportscar (below $200K MSRP) or limited edition that didn't experience this trend. I know Ferrari and other Exotics hold their value.

My examples of cars that follow the pattern.
- 2007 Shelby GT500
- BMW M5 and M6
- C4 ZR1's
- Benz CLS's
- C6 Z06
- C4 Grandsport (only 1100 of these)
- Ford GT
- 2006 Z06

2) Twice as many people will say they pre ordered the car than actual dealer pre orders

3) Over the 2009/2010 model year, only half the people who did pre- order will actually buy the car.

4) It will be replaced as "The Car to Have" by something new about 18 months from release. Which means it will remain THE Supercar for Vette lovers, but it will be replaced as THE Status car for others.

5) It will be the best Corvette ever and it will eventually be one of the legendary Corvettes. But it isn't worth $100K, $50K or even $20K over MSRP. It's a $125K SuperCar and that's what patient buyers will/should pay.

Since I do have a pre order and since I do plan to buy the car, I hope I'm right.

A few years ago I owned an AE '93 w/ ZF 6-speed. Was looking for a used '93 6-speed for my bro. Found one that was a bit hammered. The salesman told me to buy it cause the ZF plant in Germany had burned down and there would be no more ZF trannys. I laughed and walked away.
