Just so you know, I'm a REAL Vette Guy; '56/'60/'74/'86 convert/07 Z 06 with muy Mods.
Took my lovely wife to the charity function the day before the Chicago Auto Show opens. Very nice, no lines to sit in the nice cars, champagne, finger food, yada yada...
First car I HAD to see was the ZR-1 of course. They had it in blue...pretty models in blue short jackets...turntable...sorry but a bit underwhelmed visually. Hood window is one of the minor issues to my eye (of course YMMV) I was telling my wife all the way down about how kick-a$$ this car is, how "we're getting one Honey" and I sure believe it. But to tell you the truth, my VY Z looks cleaner and just "better".
But so what, who cares?
So we're wandering around and taking in the sights. OK this, OK that. Get to Dodge...
Holy Shyte!!!
Guys, the Viper ACR is absolutely DROP DEAD GORGEOUS! I mean, nolo contendere, game's over! This car in definitely not a clown shoe. It is a beautiful race car. Pictures do not do it justice.
Don't flame, each of us has our own eye for beauty. But this car is just "right" visually for a trackster. Or for just sitting in your garage for that matter.
I agree I was at the show too and the Viper looked great, the ZR1 is way better up close than in the pictures also. those models were pretty hot too. I sat in the Viper coupe, not the ACR and I still feel like I am sitting in it, 6 glasses of champagne and 2 trips to the chiropractor I still ache after the 90 seconds of seat time, I don't think I could drive one of those to work, I will drive my Zr1 to work just like I do in 06 Z and my 03 vert.
My opinion, but I thought the Viper appeared to be a bunch of after market bolt-ons. The rear wing is over the top....Red/Black (arg).. I just couldn't take myself seriously riding around in that....and maybe I shouldn't anyway....I liked the normal Viper better...
Oh, the ACR is no DD. In fact I don't think I'd drive it much on the street at all. And you're correct, the interior is very small in a Viper coupe. Just track.
The ZR just didn't look as clean as the JSB Z sitting 20 yds away. The carbon top with the blue body...no way.
And, BTW the Viper vert in blue was looking good too.
Never owned a Viper, never wanted to, but that ACR is a stunner.

The Viper has never appealed to me till the latest gen in 2003. I like it better than any of the previous clown shoes. The ACR looks fantastic on the track but anywhere outside of the racetrack and it will be far too ricey. Even though the SRT10 was a more attractively balanced look, they didn't sell well. Neither will the ACR. The reasons are deeper than the look and performance. Comfort and daily drivability are the reasons the ZR1 will outsell all Vipers. GM aint tooo stuppid.

Hmmm...I thought ricers were cars that were all show and no go?
The viper rear wing, although may look dumb, is actually functional. The hood window on the vette...well...
I guess the question is; If GM offered a version (option) of the ZR1 on PS cup tires, track oriented, re-tuned suspension and steering who would order that option, knowing that the car woild be a less desirable daily driver and couldn't even been driven in the rain?
i completely disagree with you here, the Viper was looking kickass, but in front of the ZR1 it just couldnt hold a candle. The ZR1 was menacing, even my wife loved it and thought it was the best in show followed by the GTR. Anyhow I think ZR1 is just geat, I wouldnt say perfect, because nothing is and I can always do with few more things, but I think, they have made it such that the Z06 looks plain jane and boring.. but thats just my opinion, thought will chime in on mine..

I just got back from the Philly sho and was much more impressed with the ZR1 than I thought I'd be. I could do without the hood window but still was blown away by the overall package - much better than in the pictures. Unfortunately no Viper ACR for comparison.
Saw the car in Chicago yesterday. It was awesome and has very good lines. I like the carbon fiber with the blue(could be darker hue) very much. I would most likely get black. My kids, wife, and I all thought it was the hit of the show.

Good to hear they have the blue car @ show. I'll check it out this weekend. Whats your # on Karl's list ?

HOLY CRAP! The ZR1 MUST look menacing if what I read was really just written by KILR-RYD! Figured you'd choose the GTR but maybe there's hope for the ZR1
For all that money couldn't GM do SOMETHING about the interior to make it feel a bit more exclusive than a C6 or Z06? Come on, a racing steering wheel forgoshsakes...

They don't have a list, and when asked, they play their usual Mickey Mouse games of being vague and not giving specifics. I would only deal with one of the big dealers and not the locals. They have not earned any of my business yet to date.
Just got back from the show tonight and have a couple more pics to add. (notice the one where you can see the guy's head perfectly through the hood window. funny accident.)

all I can say is that it looks better on him than the car
Anyway, it isn't the hood. When I saw it the hole was sufficiently small that it was not that big a deal. As I have said before, the hood trick window thing is about breaking up an area of paint that they felt was aesthetically undesirable, or they were melting/darkening paint.
The side ducts behind the front well are pure Flash Gordon. The roof is obnoxious. They took a C6, an extremely organic and flowing design, and put enough eye-hooks on it that it just no longer flows.
