Burning Brakes
Here's some information on which to base a guess.
2005 - BASE MSRP
$52,245 - Convertible [18.1% surcharge over Coupe]
$44,245 - Coupe
2004 - BASE MSRP
$51,535 - Convertible [15.7% surcharge over Coupe]
$52,385 - Z06 [17.6% surcharge over Coupe]
$44,535 - Coupe
Prediction: 2006 Z06 will cost 18%-21% more than the base coupe.
I'd guess that the base MSRP without options or destination
charges will be between $53,000 and $54,500.

From what Dave Hill told me when I ask him at our Corvette car show at work, I quote "drastically higher than the current zo6, but cheaper than it's competition". I would guess that he was referring to the Viper. With that said I would say in the mid 60's, but only time will tell and we will all know.

It seem a lot of people on this sight think the price will be so much higher, but if you think about it who in there right mind would pay 15,000 to 20 exra thousand for 80 to 100 horse power and some suspention mods ect? It doesnt make "good" sence

"drastically Higher"....remember the ZR-1 of about 10 years ago?
My bet is that MSRP will push into the low 70s. That will still put it more than $10K less than the Viper and way less than most other super cars. GM is going to make the Z06 into a different animal than the regular Corvette. Buyers will have instant recognition unlike those that paid big bucks for the ZR-1.

The base MSRP will be just under 60k (1 or 2k) and I'll be lucky to get out the door under $65k equipped. The use (or lack) of ceramic brakes will make a several k difference.
I think that the spin doctors at GM have been successful at making us think of anything under $ 60k as "cheap". Frankly, if it performs as expected, it is cheap at $60k!
Look at it this way. The Z06 now lists at $ 52k and accounts for 25% of Vette sales. Raising the price to $ 60k is in line with reducing the volume to about 20% of sales. If GM were to raise the price to $ 70k, the Z06 volume would fall off substantially more.

I think GM understands there is a hard core group of Corvette fans/owners that if the price is too high, will keep their present Vettes and mod them. There is not much difference performance-wise between the base C6 and the C5 (esp. ZO6). If the price is 58K the demand will be good. They can always bump the price with options.

After reading the rest of the thread...
I see there are more than two of us, but we are still surrounded by folks who think the car is going to be re-tasked for a completely different mission than it was successfully accomplishing for the past several years.
SURELY GM learned from the ZR-1. Great car, price too high, didn't sell, GM lost money on it.
On the other hand, they made the Z-16 with a silly paint scheme, a novelty item (and perhaps practice run for sometime in the future) CF hood and polished wheels with a big price premium and they still sit on the lots now.
Maybe we are all (myself included) projecting what we want on our opinions of what the car will be, but I can't understand why GM would WANT to decrease the production numbers of the Z06 as some of you have indicated.
Another thing I don't understand about the $60k plus point of view is that people actually take their Z06's and race them. It seems like to me, that the higher you price the car, the less you are going to see it used for its purpose.
But most of all, I don't understand the marketing sense of pricing it to the point where it will be competing with the Viper. Why would GM want to do that? Right now the reason they are selling Z06's to so many folks is that it is such a value. You get a racecar for a decent price that is more refined and civilized than the Viper for a lot less money.
If you price it with the Viper, then people are going to more strongly look at the Viper as an alternative.
For me, the C5 Z06 was a no-brainer. I get tons of fun for a lot less than the Viper. If it costs closer to the same then I have several alternatives:
1. Get neither and save my money.
2. Get a Viper.
3. Get something totally different. If you start pricing the Z06 high enough, I have lots of new options to consider, including Mercedes AMG products. Basically, if the Z06 is upwards of $60k you've just opened the door to me psychologically on a whole new price range and a whole new box of cars to consider. Why do that?
4. Get the Z06.
With the C5 reality, my option list was this:
1. Get a Z06.
It seems like a lot of folks here want the Z06 to be something it wasn't before. I'm hoping it will keep its current mission. A surprisingly reasonably priced high-performance Corvette.
