Jumped car from battery, how bad is this to do?
Car was dead after winter, jump started from battery because it was pulled nose into garage. Drove for a while got home and shut it down and it wouldn't restart. Battery reading 3 to 4 volts.
Decided to run it down to napa and get tested and when I was taking it out I saw the warning on the battery hold down to not jump from battery. Well i did, multiple times. I'm hoping i didn't fry something. How bad was this to do and how do I jump it, moving forward, from the engine compartment? Thanks

Don't believe anything c/would be hurt, per se; however, jumping directly has a dangerous potential.
A spark could easily ignite any gasses, not a good outcome.
There's an underhood post for jump starting, deliberately placed away from cell for this reason.

Apologies if you already knew this, but you need to leave a trickle charger on the battery during the winter or I think it will ruin the battery from sitting too long. If not storing the car in your garage, remove the battery and store it inside, on a trickle charger as well.

Don't bother getting the battery tested, it's completely dead. The only harm you did was running the engine off of the alternator only, with no support from the battery. This will really cook the Alternator. In simple terms, the battery acts as a reservoir from which the car pulls from, and the alternator acts to replace what the car pulls from the reservoir . And at 11.0 Volts, a 12 Volt battery is completely dead, so at 3 to 4 volts in your case it's pointless to try and recover that battery.

Thank you guys. Going to start it and check alt voltage and see if that's healthy. I'll report back on that. Windows need recalibration too I noticed but I think I figured out how to do that by searching. Thanks 💪

That is low, should be at least 14.0 Volts. If I recall previously, you said your battery voltage was 3-4 volts. This will never work. Get a new battery. Your alternator is being overworked trying to charge a dead battery. Soon you will have to buy a battery and an Alt., if you don't get a new battery now.

Every time I have this, I just go get a new battery and put it in. Don't dirve to the store in your Z, if you can help it.
