What power are you replacing the LS7 clutch
Hey guys/gals,
Just curious at what power levels are you guys replacing the LS7 clutch? My LS7 clutch in my 2008 LS3 wouldn’t hold at the track at 600rwhp. I’ve been through probably 10-15 clutches on my previous 4 corvettes. I’m looking at buying an unmolested, 1 owner LS7 with 10,000 miles on it, fixing the heads, adding a small cam and headers(~530rwhp). This car won’t be raced right now. I’ll be doing a full build for 850-950rwhp in about a year and start to get back in to the 1/4 mile and 1/2 mile stuff. Curious if guys with minimal mods are doing ok with the factory clutch at this level. Thank you!

I went with the McLeod RXT Street Twin which is rated at 1000HP when I went to 600WHP on my 2011 Z07. I was planning to go SC to 800-900RWHP but have since changed direction.

I have 600-630whp ball park. I am running a monster triple that I drag race and street drive, it seems to be holding up so far. Although I will say it doesn't love alot of heat, so if your drag racing it you need to be firm with the slip. If you slip it too long it will get hot and glaze. I also bleed my clutch often to get new fluid in the system and use hi temp clutch fluid as the clutch is abused alot at the track.

that’s what I had in my base C6 running mid 9’s about 12-13 years ago. Had one in my C5Z making mid 900’s as well. Don’t want to swap the clutch until I do a full build.

Let me rephrase the question, not looking for clutch suggestions. I know what clutch I’ll be running if I build the car. Anybody having issues with the factory clutch at ~530rwhp on the street not at the track?

Sorry, I was running the factory clutch at 553RWHP on street with Roll Racing, Standing Mile with no issues.

I've seen stock clutches live on the street for a while on 600whp cars, but mine literally blew up at 500whp on my third 1/4 mile pass. All depends on how you use/abuse it.

Mine had over 100k miles on it and it was holding just fine at 570whp on the street with drag radials. I added a Tick CMC to help with those high RPM shifts and the slave blew apart after about 5000 miles of abuse shifting over 7000 RPM.
I ended up putting a new OEM slave with a billet release bearing on it with a Mantic cerametallic twin disc. Now is shifts amazing over 7000.

Thank you guys! I appreciate it! If I have to do a clutch, it’s not the end of the world. Was just hoping to it all at once when I do a full build which is probably the direction I’ll go.

Replaced mine, car made 580 FT/LBs on the last dyno and I started to notice heavy slippage in 1st and 2nd on a drag radial on the street. Went with a Mcleod RST Twin and its been great so far. My OEM clutch had like 70k miles on it though, so miles was a factor as well but it looked pretty clean when we took it out

Melting Slicks
This is correct. I had one in my built C5 before increasing power and it can handle 550 rwhp or less. Went to a twin disc in the C6Z when I supercharged it...

no hard launches and shifting at high rpm was enough at stock power to have my clutch sticking to the floor. bought it used, 50k miles, not sure how it was treated before hand.
