Why is this attached to my positive battery cable?
I previously had a C6 Grand Sport so I'm familiar with the rear battery location. I replaced my ZR1 battery yesterday since I purchased the car 3 years ago. I notice this "extra" piece on the positive connection that I don't remember seeing on my GS. Is this a ZR1 thing?
The car doesn't have anything extra electronically that I'm aware of, no aftermarket head unit or other stereo upgrades except someone added a rear camera to the stock unit.

My bone stock 2011 ZR1 has it.

My 2012 ZR1 Centennial has it as well.
So......WHAT DO IT DO?!?

you have to look under the carpet. Mine had it but I only noticed it when I took the entire carpentry out. Mine is an 09 zr1. I suspect they changed the location at some point to make it more accessible

Just a little side note here a little off the OP's question. Had my 2010 stock ZR1 for almost 5 years till I sold it last year. Unique to the ZR1 compared to the Z06 for instance is the factory limited charging voltage to roughly 13.8 volts compared to about 14.6 for the Z06. I can tell you over time that voltage falls short of what is necessary for full charge and longevity. My specialty was marine 12 volt systems where people depended on them for all onboard systems when offshore and in distant lands. GM wouldn't allow that override voltage limitation to be changed at a factory dealership. Certainly a good tuner could reset it. Despite using a battery tender, every month or two I put a digital charger on my ZR1 and let it fully charge the battery to 14.6 volts (assumes 77 degrees ambient battery temperature). Could add years to the life of your battery if you keep a tender on it as well.
Only found that restriction on my ZR1, not on any of my other Corvettes. Never could confirm a reason for that driving voltage reduction compared to the Z06.
Just my 2 cents.
