Car suddenly died
2006 C6 Z06, driving along and car suddenly, no warning just dies. No lights or power. Does the car require a battery (replaced about 6 months ago) to run?TIA

Reported power wire(s) feeding starter & solenoid can break due to age & heat cycles.
A real issue in hot climates and/or w/ headers.
When this happens car loses all power -- as you've described
Get under & carefully check cables at starter/solenoid.
Using a flashlight, very dark under there.
W/ a pliers gently tug each (3?) cable confirming they're firmly still connected
**Good precaution's disconnecting battery for this.
Accidentally ground a whole lot of bad things happen.

The car was running fine, meaning the wires and cables feeding the starter and solenoid were not under load? The loss of all power, lights, dash etc seems to point to battery going south,
The question I ask is, can the car run with a bad battery?? Or does it need the battery to be on line??

Late model corvettes require a battery in very good condition to run properly. Years ago you could disconnect the battery from a running car and it would keep running as long as the alternator or generator(real old cars) was working properly.

Not rocket science. Put a meter on the battery. If you have power from the battery and nothing at the dash your problem is not the battery. Can probably diagnose this with a simple test light. With the car off and just sitting there you should have +12 volts at the starter, alternator and under hood fuse block. Follow the power until you can't find it where it should be.
