Sold my C6ZR - Where the market REALLY sits on these cars
***UPDATED on 7/23/21*** Click here to jump to the update
Hey guys. So i've been back and forth on selling my ZR1 over the whole last year, as it's been plagued by the rotor issues that never subsided. Also, it was my first non-convertible Vette (2002, 2010, 2013 427) and just never came around to liking the fixed roof. Finally threw it on AutoTrader last week, and in less than 48 hours I had the money wired to my account. Since there's been so much talk of these cars value "tanking", I thought i'd give a little input to how it went for me.
First off, I listed the car at $57K, as I really just wanted to gone as I could use the cash for capital on our dream home we're building. The car has 11,500 miles on it, has PPF on all panels except the roof, rear lift gate and rear bumper. The car comes with the 427 cup wheels that were brand new a year ago with 1K miles on them. Also new Continentals with 1K miles (same as wheels). Came with the OEM chrome wheels in perfect cosmetic condition, although all of them had an ever-so-slight wobble when you threw them on the balancer. Had the calipers professionally powder coated yellow as I hated the blue on a yellow Vette. Car DOES have slight vibration that was enough to drive me absolutely insane from 70 to 80mph. Both steering wheel and the rest of the car shook so it wasn't just front or rear rotors affected. I offset the wheel/tire balance to the rotors and while it was better, it still wasn't gone. Car also came with professionally framed window sticker/build sheet and a show board. Price was listed a little lower than I initially was going to since the vibration still was present.
Purchased the car for $60,750 in October of 2018 with 8,600 miles Of 24 C6ZR1 for sale on AT, it was the 4th cheapest one and had nearly half the miles of those below it. Figured $57K asking would get a quick sale but also not giving it away. I was shocked with the results.
In the first 12 hours, I had 2 offers of $51K and $53K. Later that day, I had 2 instant wire transfer offers for $54K, sight unseen. 34 emails, 8 phones calls. Held out for a 5th offer of $56K and just was ready to let it go. Buyer didn't ask a SINGLE QUESTION about the car. Wired the money over instantly, bought sight unseen and said he'd send a transport soon. Went to a dealer network based out of San Deigo, so I figured that's where it was shipping. Was picked up the very next morning by a carrier at 11AM. Before the END of that day, which was also before I removed the ad, I had an email from someone stating that my car is listed for sale in Indiana and that I might wanna look into it.
Come to find out, the dealer that bought it off of me sold it to "a friend" that runs a high end used car dealership and has it listed for $63K initially before pics were up. As soon as the pics were posted, it upped to $65K asking which DOESNT include the original wheels, as I did ------> https://www.jabaay.com/used-vehicle-...tte-zr1-c-129/
Granted it has dealer markup in it and I put a lot of other time and work into it, but safe to say these cars have NOT depreciated all that much in the last few years, despite all the C8 scare that everyone seems to be shaking about.
Just wanted to make a quick post to tell you all, don't underestimate these cars. My car wasn't perfect (I'd rate it a 9 out of 10) but I have no doubt I could have sold it for close to what I paid for it initially if I'd been willing to sit on it for awhile
PS - shame on you GM/Brembo for never properly addressing those damn rotors

I’ll bet the dealer gets 62-63. Nice looking z!
I think Donzo is selling his car too cheap as well.
I had a similar experience selling my z06 last month. Lots of offers

Wow.... gorgeous car.... That dealer will probably get close to what they are asking... Nice flip for them....
I do the same with 4th gen fbods….
paid $8700 for this one with 49K miles... flipped it for $15,500 with both stock ZR1 wheels and the Fikse FM5's... Rare SS, hard top, 6spd manual...
Then bought this 02 35th LE M6 car w 20K miles for $12,500.. Sold it for $17K... It is actually at a high end car dealer in Tn for $23K...
Used some of the money to mod my ZR1... Put the rest in the bank... I typically do this 2-3 times per year... these cars are typically 1 owner vehicles and I merely clean em up...

Good to know, thanks for the info. It's odd cause some zr1's on this for sale forum take a long time to sell.
Your car looked incredible, beautiful paint condition!
Good luck with your home, i did the same thing 8 years ago and then got back into a zr1 in 2018

Sounds about right. I picked mine up April of last year with just under 12K miles for about $60K + TT&L. I've often commented that I could still get close to what I paid for it. It's good to know I was right.
Yours is a beautiful example.

I just bought a torch red 2011 last week. I was looking at a cyber gray one in Dallas and then decided I wanted red. There were three of them, not including the one I bought. I called about all three and within 24 hours I was informed they were all sold. I was told by 2 of the 3 that they sold within days, money wired, sight unseen. The one I bought wasn't listed just a reply on FB. It was a private individual but I think he is like CBMZR1 and buys and flips. He only had the car for 6 months. I paid slightly more than I wanted but the market did seem hot so I made the deal.

The one in Dallas that I was looking at was a 2011 Cyber Gray owned by a Jeff if I remember correctly. The one I bought was a 2011 Torch Red out of St. Louis. I'm the third owner but Carfax shows 5 because it changed dealer hands twice.

Not bad, I would’ve held out a least a couple days & maybe gotten closer to $60k, but if you just wanted it gone you did well.

The one in Dallas, did it have Caravaggio seats in it? Where was it listed, Auto trader?

Nope.. He re did the entire interior himself. I cannot recall whether or not he added Caravaggio seats. He sold it to a dealer up in Chicago... I went by his paint shop yesterday.... The car is being picked up today.

It was all stock including the titanium interior. He had it listed in the C6 for sale section and he PM'd me when I posted a WTB. After we struck a deal, he started having section thoughts about letting it go. We both walked away with no problems.

And not that it's related, but I knew that within a week the Q2 report was coming out on Tesla so I immediately reinvested the sale money in stock to turn at $13K profit this morning. Didn't take me long to feel a little better about the sale
Gonna miss a lot of you guys in the ZR forum. Great group of people with lots of great information
