Z06 as a Daily
#21
Something no one else has said, depends on where you are going daily. Are you your own boss? Does your job have a political element to it? Wish it weren't so, but my daily driving the Z cost me tons of income, possibly contract renewals at jobs. One of the Corvette taxes is, you outrun your superiors or even your peers, and it can backfire.
If you work for a bunch of married people with children, get a Honda Civic with 300k miles on it; be seen broken down on the side of the road. America is a Socialist country if you have to have a job. Hide your toys.
Good luck.

^that's totally valid, people do judge you. I was driving a 95 E36 (10 years old at the time) and people said, "oooh look a BMW!!". Then a few years later, I'm rolling in a 84 W123 (now 20+ years old) and customers would say, "oh, I see you have a Mercedes, business must be pretty good!".

IMHO, the Z makes a great DD and I drive mine(including commuting) in the non-winter months as much as possible. I could drive it most of the time in winter but the salt residue and lack of traction in the cold makes it not worth it. It's comfortable, powerful, gets decent fuel economy, and puts a smile on my face every time I hop in.

I daily drove mine from work and school, 7 days a week. Put about 10k miles on her in about 8 months. Rain or shine didn’t matter I just enjoyed driving, especially after a tough day of work or school and you’re walking back to your parking spot and admiring the beauty your Z.
Ultimately I decided I didn’t want to spend ~$400 monthly on gas anymore, so picked up a Honda Accord. Only take out my Z when I feel like it and once in a while will take her out consecutively for a few days.

This is all MHO. I have a 08 C6Z06 cammed/ kooks exhaust and few other mods still street tame, but it does have that extra rumble and horsepower. Fun DD but it is nice when I get the drive my confiscated truck ( by my girlfriend ) more amenities and space. So you will need a 2nd get around town vehicle for running errands and transporting things.

Meh, this is over rated. I've driven a GTR and a Viper (and weren't my only cars) to work where my boss drove a honda civic and CEO drove a BMW 5 series. It helps that I was single and had the excuse I had nothing else to spend the money on. Now that I'm married I "downgraded" to the Z06. I honestly hadn't even thought of it being a problem with this car also but guess it could be... I like to think that I wouldn't want to work for a company that was like that anyways.
I agree, this would have never occurred to me. While I do like my vette, most of these are 6+ years old, it's not like they are Ferraris or Lambos.... I would be surprised if anyone at my job said something. Hell, I'd be surprised if anyone even knew what I was driving. But I work downtown and there are many parking lots so that would be a mute point.
If you like daily driving your Z06, then do it. If not, dont. Pretty simple.

A small cam car would be fun to DD. I have bad knees and back so not sure if I would everyday. My Z is/was driven 3-4 times a week.

Hello All!
I am considering trading in my 2017 BMW M240 for a C6 Z06. I was looking at buying one from Carmax so that I could buy the extended warranty (based on the forums, I am scared of dropping a valve). I had a couple questions for folks.
1. How do you like these cars a a daily driver? I am a 32 year old male that doesn’t mind a rough ride.
2. Is there anywhere else to buy a C6 under warranty like Carmax or is the only other options doing the heads from one of the shops listed in the form to prevent/not worry about dropping a valve?
sorry for my ignorance.

I've also driven manual cars almost exclusively for about 15-16 years, and it can get old if you live in an area that gets traffic. I just turned 40 and I'm starting to get lazy and old... sometimes.

Absolutely!!!
I don't drive mine DAILY ........A) I'm in Canada, so she's parked for the winter, and B) I generally avoid rainy days if I have the choice, but aside from that, I drive it to work as often as possible throughout the summer.
Is it the best car to daily drive?? Obviously NO for some people, but for me (and others) hell yeah!! Makes the drive to/from work actually worth driving!
In retrospect, my first 'Vette (2010 base C6) was way better than the Z because it rode much softer/smoother than the Z, so for a "daily", it was AMAZING, but on the track, well obviously wasn't up to snuff like the Z. There's no doubt, the Z rides more harsh than the majority of cars out there, but once you get over that, I wouldn't have it any other way .

I've been daily driving Corvettes (a '94, '99, and current 08 Z06) for the past 15 years. My '99 has 434,000 miles on it and is currently getting a used LS6 swap. Last year I picked up the 08 Z06 and promptly did head work, cam upgrade, MSD, headers, etc. It makes a great 585 rwhp daily driver for me because I enjoy it. I overlook some items in preference for others. I do have a few other vehicles, but I prefer the Z06.

So I found a 29k mike 09 Z06 near me. I will probably hold on to this car for 3 years and daily drive it. I am trying to buy an extended warranty to hedge against LS7 dropping a valve (yes I know I can get the heads fixed but that doesn’t seem perfect).
has anyone had good experiences using Fortegra Smart Autocare with premium plus coverage. It explicitly states it covers any lubricated engine part and appears to cover based on the parts listed, dropping a valve. Reviews are very mixed online but trying to see if anyone here had problems with a claim with them.
Thanks again for the insight!

That policy will cost you more than fixing the heads. When you figure in the higher resale in 3 years (not to mention being easier to sell) it’s a no brainer to fix the heads instead.

I have an S4 for daily use, I love driving my Z but nothing beats the comforts of my S4 for jumping in and going. I also live in the midwest and don't have a ton of nice days lol
