Tire Mount/Balance Headache
Swapping out my GS reps for stock C6Z chrome wheels and it has been a headache!
First shop said the car was too low to fit on the lift so I asked them if they could use a jack and they replied “No, we aren’t gonna do that.”
The next shop shop got everything off then called me and said “they are too wide, we can’t do them.”
The shop after that gave the same excuse, even though I told them the tire size and they assured me it wouldn’t be a problem.
So, I took it to another shop that again, assured me it wouldn’t be a problem.....They just called and said “it won’t hold air. We can’t do it.” I asked them to elaborate and they just said they can’t get a good seal on it. When I asked if there was anything wrong with the new wheels they were like “Nope! The new wheels are fine we just can’t get it to seal.”
Is is this common with C6 z’s Or am I just dealing with dumb shops? It’s almost comical now.....I saw this most recent place calling and I was like “Bet they are gonna say they can’t mount them” and I turned out being right. This is so insane that I just started laughing after I hung up the phone.

Hey, I live in Medina and always go to the Tire Source in Fairlawn. There is a Tire Source in Medina also and they are good except they can't road force balance and the Fairlawn store can.....

I’m actually going to Parish McIntyre. I used to always get my Vette tires mounted and balanced there because I have a few buddies that work there and I know they do good work but I recently moved to Massillon.
They assured me it wouldn’t be an issue for them so we shall see!

REDSEE5, I've had the same problem - sorry to hear - it's a total pain. I'm about to go though it again and I was just talking to a buddy that has a GT3 RS and he suggested going to the Porsche Dealer because they deal with so many cars with super wide tires. I usually take the wheels off myself and throw them in the back of my truck to avoid them having to deal with the Z06 and jacking it up, etc. So, that might be something to try … drop by ahead of time and talk with the Service Manager ...
Hope that helps ! Tom

This is a more common problem than you would think, as Landru stated, go to your local Chevy dealership

Are you mounting stock tire sizes on stock wheels? if so, that really should not be a problem. If they can't get the beads to seal, they need to use strap around the tire to force the beads up to the rim sealing surface. I bought a tire machine and do my own tire swaps now because i have had so many bad experiences at tire shops

I am in north Kentucky (just across the river from Cincinnati), and I take my GS to a local Tire Discounters. They have never had a problem either mounting new tires or doing the alignment. They drive the car up on a rack as it is too low for a lift.
No problems mounting tires or getting them to seal either.
