Had a new Z06 in 2006. Roadraced her for five years. First mod was an MGW. Great shifter. You won't miss third again. While I had it, MGW sent me an updated shifter for FREE. THAT'S customer service. Fast Forward 6 ye
ars and bought a new Z06 (2006 w 2249 miles). the first mod is an MGW shifter.

Default MGW shifter

After installing the MGW short throw shifter,... WOW 😲 night and day difference! Shifts are precise and positive. It’s like click from 1st to 2nd.. click to 3rd, click to 4th and so on. I love this shifter!

yeah I gotta say I love mine as well..... of course my stock shifter box was trashed so replacements would have made the stock better.

No comparison with the quality of oem vs MGW. Currently, my MGW shifter with the lower shifter box has more miles than the P.O.S. oem shifter had when I threw it in the trash. The oem shifter's poor quality degrades over time. With less than 40k miles, the "0" ring in the oem shifter rod broke off, bushings worn and third gear miss was frustrating. In went the MGW shifter and lower box. The difference was night and day. Shorter throws, positive shifts and no more missed third gear shifts.

For whatever this is worth to you guys..... I have the ZO6, as most of you know the Z comes with a lower box from the factory with no rubber grommets. Solid mounted to the torque tube. I installed the MGW at about 5K miles. Probably the best mod I've ever done. So shortly after that George at MGW came out with the new shifter that had the lower box attached. That new box has rubber grommets on it. I always have to have the new stuff so I went and ordered it. Not really much of a difference, I think if I had it to do over again I'd just of stuck with the first MGW and not switched over to the newer model. Used that money on some exhaust valves.(:-)

And one other thing, Whoever started this stuff about "Notchie" Please explain what the hell that means because everybody else that thinks the MGW is no good is using it as their excuse. I'm thinking that notchie is very good, the shifter goes where it's supposed to. Especially from second to third. So just my 2 cents.

bros i have said this before, but i am not sure the is car is better with what i gained versus what i lost going from stock to mgw. i am not unhappy or mad at the mgw, but my opinion is it is not this incredible thing that changes the car. i still hit the gate from second to third on fast shifts. i have messed with it using the supplied alignment tool, but never seemed perfect. oem was less effort and smoother, but more movement of my arm. that said, maybe actual time to shift is a wash.

i put the shifter in around nine thousand miles, so hard to believe the oem was trashed.

i have a tmod lower box and shifter i bought in the classifieds, but have not messed with it yet because i guess i just ran out of ***** in regards to the shifter.

I read a very interesting article by ranger on his website. is it [possible your thumb is pushing the shifter into the gate? its a simple thing to do and using his method of palming the shifter for that shift works very well.

Reason I like my weighted **** (1.6lbs) you don't have to arm wrestle the shifter as much as you simply guide it in the general direction of the shift and it glides in.

I would also like to suggest trying the AntiVenom mod. First try it with (2)washers and see how it feels with the shifts. Then try it with just the (1). Very easy mod, takes 5 mins.

on the two-three i am pushing it with an open hand. it just hits and bounces off the gate like a speed bump.

it is what it is. not like i am out there trying to get a scholarship.

Sounds like you have an issue with the shifter. I couldn’t miss 3rd if I tried. The spring takes it straight over as I push up with an open hand. I also think it makes hitting 5th from 4th much easier.

The shifters dont have any springs in them. Those are all in the transmission.

MGW is ok, just different. If you like it, which a lot of people do great. I'm not a big fan, and would have stayed stock with tmod if given a choice.

I do like the MGW shift ***** though.

I meant it springs over to the next gear. I believe it’s due to a shorter pivot point in the lower box. It also helps there is no slop and the box is solid. The stock box is quite cheap. I was amazed the my previous mustang had a better built one.

Always cracks me up to hear people have issues going from 2nd to 3rd. Honestly i think those that do are trying to hard. 85 camaro, 95 camaro,03 cobra and 11 z06 never and issue even though i did put shifters in them all.
