Default Replacing the headunit / adding backup camera on the Z.

Hi all,

My brother and a buddy replaced the head unit on the Z this past weekend. Here's a how-to video in case anyone is interested:

They'll be doing some other stuff to the Z going forward, so be sure to subscribe!

Nice video guys. Can you share the model numbers of what units/parts you used?

Think about one on the front while you're at it.

Do you retain the Bose system? I have a 06 Z with Bose and I’m getting conflicting research...

Yep, everything works. Unfortunately, the Bose system is lacking some punch on the low end, so I might consider adding a small subwoofer later down the road. I'd recommend going with the higher end PAC box to retain all of the factory bits and pieces.

Curious to see how your battery does with that PAC. I've read about this unit tripling the resting current draw when parked.

My PAC exhibits no excessive draw when parked (it is wired as described in my Android Head Unit & Backup Camera Installation thread from 4.5 years ago).

I want to do this install my self minus the backup camera. Mind linking me to the higher end PAC box? thanks! how's this particular pioneer unit? I honestly don't need nav or anything but apple carplay would be useful since I have an iphone and I just need bluetooth for music.

I want to do this mod so bad but I am not smart when it comes to stereo and electronics. I need to do more research to ensure I get all the proper components so that everything works. I want to also install a back up camera as well as front bumper.

What did you do to power up the FM antenna?

I haven’t noticed anything; I guess we’ll see on an ongoing basis.

look at the links I posted above. I love the headunit. It’s cheap and works very well. CarPlay is definitely worth it for the navigation and Spotify/Pandora.

The PAC box takes care of that.

I’m going to take this back. I messed around with the EQ settings, and it sounds really good. No need for a sub, in my opinion.
