Default Thinking hard about a 07 Z06

First off thanks for the great forum, I've been reading through much of it as I get closer to pulling the trigger on this 07 Z. What a wealth of info here so thanks again.

So to the meat of it. I am looking at a 07 Z06 with 30k on it at a local dealer. They are offering it to me for $35.5k. Clean carfax and looks like 3 owners. I actually spoke to the guy who traded it in as he was there picking up his new 2017 Zo6. Sounds like he didn't own it long but had put some money into it recently. Car is from what he said pretty much stock, it does have new tires and wheels, mild to wild switch, new Pioneer touch screen deck and halo tail lights?

I drove the car today and it seemed very tight, no rattles or odd noises at all. After reading about some of the Head issues with the LS7 I asked about a warranty and they said they could get me a 5/50000 thru Allstate for $5500.

Questions I have is if the head issue prevalent enough in 07 Z's to make the warranty a no brainer? The extra $5k puts this on the outside of my want to be price range, so I guess I am just wanting some input on if its a smart move or not.

You can get the heads fixed for less than $5k. Pull the trigger.

I agree. Car is a good price and you can fix the heads for far less.

Price is a tad high IMO...especially for yellow. As for that warranty, hell no to that price. The car looks like its at a chevy dealer maybe...they should be able to give you a GMEPP warranty for half that. If you could get the car at that price including a GMEPP, I'd say grab it. Lastly, yes...the heads need to be addressed, especially without a warranty.

It is a Chevy dealer and said they go through Allstate now. I was not sure if maybe GMEP would't write a warranty on a 10 year old car so it certainly got me thinking harder.

When I asked him to talk to service guy about the heads they came back with " a warning light will come on before the engine goes anyway" . I find that hard to believe.

I do NOT agree with the yellow comment. Normally I don't like yellow, but Velocity Yellow is stunning, and that's not just my opinion but most people who see it in person.

I went out of my way to purchase this car specifically because it was VY.

Yeah, that's absolute horsesh*t. No clue what they're talking about. No way in hell a warranty is worth that much. If you really want the car, negotiate the best deal you can get and either just address the heads or email Ken for a warranty... https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-increase.html

I purchased my GMPP through him years back (GMEPP didn't exist). Granted it was 2012, and my car was an '09...I got a $0 deductible major guard 4/48K warranty for ~$900. Used that warranty to pay for my heads through AHP in late 2015.

I have no personal beef with yellow cars...but they don't resell for the same money as other more desirable color cars, and that's just a fact.

Very nice VY C6Z..... I happen to like VY.... It was my third choice. I have a friend with one and when its cleaned up it is a gorgeous car! I don't think $35K is a bad price at all for an 07 30K mile car. GL w purchase.

I am not sure, what are the difference in the 2 on a 07?

Edit,

Went back and looked up the differences. This car is a I believe 2LZ.

Going off of memory...but its telescoping steering wheel, heated seats, premium sound, 2-driver memory. Might be forgetting something...

What does it cost to pull the heads and check them? Is there a go to fix for the worn valve guides?

American heritage performance (AHP) is a great resource for this topic. Search for their " wiggle test" DIY thread...that won't cost you much more but some time if you have basic mechanical skills, and there's no need to remove the heads with that procedure. That test is a real good indicator to determine if you have an issue that needs to be resolved.

As for a go to fix...I recommend AHP's package #4 heads. I upgraded to their MoldStar90 guide material, because it's far superior to anything else out there, and I also opted for PSI 1511 beehive springs with Ti retainers. Having said, there's nothing wrong with their basic package #4...I'm just very particular with what I want.

This made me LOL~ I know you didn't buy this garbage advise, it was just too funny to ignore.

There is a warning light that comes on,,, AFTER the boom!

Plenty of places around to fix the heads. Go with a known source with a good reputation and you will have peace of mind, and a GREAT car that'll put a permanent grin on your face..

I'm not sure, but I think 1LZs didn't have the Heads Up display.

Entering the VIN on Google brought this up.
