Here's a quick two page thread to read on some of the subtle changes over the years: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...ce+model+years
There are quite a few threads on this topic, but at the end of the day unless you wind up with a 2011 Carbon Edition (essentially equipped like a ZR1 w/ an LS7), the cars are all very similar. I generally say to get the newest, cleanest (unmolested), lowest mileage car you can afford...and pull the trigger the instant you find one. Cars like that don't sit long.

bringing this back from the dead and pardon my ignorance as im just starting my homework. looking at purchasing a C6Z for regular autox, weekend cruiser and daily when i get bored driving my truck, and maybe a track day once a year. got a long winter to do research and shop around. The bug bit me after going for a ride in my friends 08Z at a local autox. Plus i have several friends racing them in AS and SSR. I really love cyber gray and black interior. also seeing a lot of 09s and later imo with a nicer wheel. i could do without that navigation touch screen but would like to be able to easily have XM radio equipped and/or an auxilary port for longer drives
im reading that you guys are saying that in 09-11 there was some improvements mechanically. whats the differences in trim levels for 09-11. 1z,2z,3z? also would be interested to know if there are any differences in gearing between the early trans and later trans cars? im assuming weight differences are based on trim package options for the most part

Of course, trim level options increased weight, but is not the reason the base car's curb weight increased. A base 2009 1LZ with no options had a curb weight of 3175 lbs. My 2009 2LZ with NAV and chrome spiders has a curb weight of 3228 lbs. Add the same options to a 2006 and the curb weight would increase from 3130 to 3183 lbs. In addition the 2009 up cars had a larger dry sump reservoir which also weighed more than the smaller reservoir found on the 2006-2008 cars.
Navigation screen only came with the optional navigation option. Hit or miss finding one with/without the navigation option. More likely a base 1LZ would not have NAV and a 2LZ or 3LZ would have NAV.

I remember awhile back there was a Ford lightening, and he 'thought' he was just bad, until I left him in my dust......Z06's (C6 version) are the ones that will never come around again. Get one, cheap as you can. Build it. Their nasty.
Most have more capability than the owner does to handle it.
Good luck.

i think im leaning toward narrowing to 09-11. anyone have feedback with the ABS switch from Delphi to Bosch? My current car i autox with is a 350z in STU. i had a 2008 touring Z that came with traction control (turned off obviously) that never had an issue with braking but my current 2008 base coupe that did not come with traction control has a terrible ice mode condition and pedal knock back under hard braking indicating some difference between the abs systems. Wondering if the Vettes suffer from this as well?

This is true, but I also want to point out that a pair of new C5Z axles from AutoZone or Advanced Auto only run about $70 per axle...
If you have a jack and two stands plus a few basic tools and small amount of confidence, you could seriously be out all of $70 + 2 hours of work each time you snap an axle.

I don't think there are any models in particular to avoid. Get whatever car you can find a good deal on.
If you like the C7 and the sole reason of getting a C6 Z is because of the cooling issue, consider this post. Bill is the first person I've heard that has addressed the cooling issue. The secret is the Ron Davis radiator with integrated oil cooler. I know that Ron Davis is the best on the market and has been for more than a decade.

I meticulously shopped for a C6 Z for over a year. I knew every single Z for sale on the internet in the US. I researched every option, pro's, con's, TSB's, etc.
At the end of the day, a few weeks ago, it all came down to these three things...
1) What color exterior and interior do I prefer?
2) Which one of those has the lowest miles?
3) Which one of those fits my budget and plans?

Personally like the 06' or as mentioned a few and far in between CF edition. If price is of greater concern then the 06'
06' has the T56 which in our opinion has more readily available and affordable serious upgrading capability's.
The C6z06 (any year) is a great American Sports Car.
