I realize this has probably been beaten to death but i haven't found a straight answer. What is the cheapest reliable way to fix the valvetrain issue.Looking at buying an 08 Z06

Sure you have..
Steps below;
1. Buy the car.
2. Remove heads, send to AHP, ask for package #4.
3. Re-install heads, enjoy car.
How much easier could it be?
..almost forgot.. :beatdeadh orse:

I'm not scared it's going to destroy itself. The dealer I'm buying it from is actually selling me a warranty, however I've heard this as a potential problem and would like to pro-actively prevent it.

Good for you, I'd love to send my heads to AHP... However I got the GMPP on my '08 Z (w/ 14k miles, bought it last week), so I'll probably just wait till that's up before I address the heads. I figured buying the warranty was a lot easier sell w/ the wife, than spending another $3k-ish on the heads right after I bought the car.

Yeah I read that thread too, and that's good news... But if I recall, all the cars they've fixed under GMPP coverage come to their shop for a wiggle test, if they are out of spec, he has a GMPP rep come by to look at the test/results. They then agree/disagree to cover the cost of the repair. So while that's great for people that are local, it'd be hard to make that work 1500 miles away.

Melting Slicks
My friend's 2011 carbon Z06 I believe were well outta spec well below 5K miles IIRC. Had his fixed by AHP last year.

I did the same as the OP: research the car before you buy, understand its issues, understand the 'fix,' get the issue fixed and enjoy the car. This is a much better thread than the others that go along these lines:
"Just purchased a Z06, do you think the valves will last 10k miles?"
"Just purchased a Z06, do you think the valves will last 10k miles?"

Too bad more people don't do as you have done. Research, and take proactive measures into your own hands. That's smart.

"Cheap", in my experience, costs a hell of a lot more, cause you generally end up paying for it twice. When it comes to cylinder head work, or engine work in general, you pay for quality. If you want "cheap", sell the vette.
