Stock 09Z on the highway out West here I get 28-30 on the two lane highways at 70-75 and 27-28 on the interstates at 80. My local driving which is small city to 15 miles of mixed driving is 17-20 MPG, all calculated from miles and gallons.

Other mileage from DIC:

Mojave Magnum ~ 4 MPG
track events ~ 6- to 6.5 MPG

Silver State 90 mile closed highway event:
150 MPH class ~ 9 MPG (5th gear)
140 MPH class ~ 10 MPG (5th gear)
125 MPH class ~13 MPG "
110 MPH class ~ 18 MPG "

Starting in 2007 I've driven my 07Z 9 years in a row to the Corvettes on Woodward and the Woodward Dream Cruise events in Detroit...4800 miles round trip. Coming home from Denver non stop, 1043 miles in 15 hours, I wasn't even tired after enjoying its comfortable ride with Nitto Invos and the deep sound of its B & B Bullets.

So far my biggest trip is from LA to San Diego, so roughly 300 miles in one day. Car drove like a dream. Ran into heavy traffic otw back; MPG was 24-25 with me gunning it in 2nd and 3rd periodically.

I agree. My 33.0 mpg average over a 450 mile trip was according to the DIC, that is usually around 1.5 mpg optimistic over dividing the miles by gallons over a long trip with many, many fill ups. That 33.0 mpg average was also with 100% pure gasoline for that 450 miles(good for around 1.5 mpg over E10). I if had calculated mileage driven divided by gallons burned, I would have seen around 31.5 mpg average for that 450 miles and 30 mpg on E10.

I normally average around 29 mpg(hand calculated, not DIC) when doing a mixed driving road trips of some 2,500-3,500 miles( 80% highway of 75-85 MPH and 20% national parks, scenic roads, towns, etc) and when running E10 90% + of the time.

Be very careful if you run the Tail of the Dragon. Between the slow *** Harleys that won't use a pull off and the idiots on the sport bikes that can't seem to stay in their lane of traffic, it's dangerous. I won't drive it again. I almost wiped out two bicyclist when I was going around a tight right hand blind curve, and they were pedaling uphill at around 5 MPH in the lane(no shoulder). If I had hit them, I would have automatically been at fault. Even though they have just as much right to pedal their bicycles on a public highway as I do driving my car, them doing it on a road such as the TOD, is plain stupid on their part.

I've taken quite a few long trips in my Corvettes, and I can tell you that the Average MPG on the DIC is not accurate over the entire trip. My best guess is that it is accurate over the last 100 miles or so. The first time I was aware of this I was on a 6,000 mile trip. Toward the end of the trip, I got off the freeway for the night. I noticed the Average MPG on the DIC went down 0.2 MPG in a couple miles. Mathematically, this is impossible given the trip was already over 5,000 miles.

The Tail of the Dragon is a blast. I've driven it about 10 times, in 3 different Corvettes. If you can, drive it both ways. Uphill is a lot more fun.

i've went through a set of tires or two on my sport bike on the tail of the dragon, love it down there, plan on taking my Z this summer. I have more fun on the roads in the area, then the actual US129. I think the ride to Blood Mtn, and Suches is the best road riding/driving I've ever done. Blood MTN is amazing, switchbacks with a passing lane...

As everyone seems to agree, these are great road trip cars, they eat up the miles.

Anyone road trip with an aftermarket camshaft? how much does it effect the mileage?

A bunch of friends and I left Bowling Green and drove to South Dakota, then over to the Oregon Coast for a few days. When we departed I headed to Sacramento to pay bills and do laundry. Next morning I loaded up the Z06 and headed to Atlanta Georgia to spend three days at Road Atlanta seeing the Petit LeMans. Then I headed to Indiana to visit relatives, then headed south to Eureka Springs Arkansas for the Eureka Springs Corvette weekend. After that was over I headed to Denver to visit more friends, and then back to Sacramento.

I just love driving the Z06 across country. This trip was taken with my previous 427 Limited Edition Z06, which was totaled November 2009. Replaced with another 427 LE Z06.

^^ Winner... so far. Beautiful color on a Z06 btw.

My wife and I take our 08Z on an annual mid September road trip each year. We spend a week on the road and so far have traveled between 1200 and 2400 miles in the week. Longest days have been about 600 miles. I avoid the interstate as much as possible and take two lane interesting roads. The Z has been a great car for this, all stock about 42,000 miles on the clock. A retired friend with an 07Z has driven all around the country and has more than 70,000 miles on his, all stock.

Actually doing a calculation with every fill up is less accurate than watching the DIC. The most accurate way to do it is to average the mileage and gallons over several fill ups (ideally 10). The reason it doesn't work for a single fill up is the chance of error on the fillup. Pumps don't always work the same way and even using the same pump you can get a variance of a couple of gallons filling the car due to due to pump issues. It isn't unknown to see an error between 1 or 2 gallons or between 5 or 10%. Averaging over 10 fillups drops the error down to .5% to 1%.

6,700 mile trip from Northern California to LA, Austin, Knoxville, Bowling Green, Louisville, South Bend In, Traverse City Mi and back. Visited the Corvette Museum and ran the Tail of the Dragon. I'm 6'6" and find the Z06 the most comfortable car I have ever had. Longest one day stint was 840 miles. Averaged 26.5 MPG for the entire trip.

i find this an interesting post ... and then realize many simply don't drive their cars; which is ok. my 06 purchased w/ 7.5k miles and now just under 39k ... has at least 28k of interstate driving from va to ottawa, ontario, to fl, and everywhere in between. monthly trips of over 850 miles to and from are routine and w/out incidence ... except the occasional minivans and fl senior drivers interaction (sorry!). just do your service i & ii, enjoy it, and put your concerns elsewhere. the c6z it is a wonderful, reliable, road car. at 6' & 210 ... i even like the seats.

as always, opinions vary.

The only problem with the seats is the cheap GM construction. The seat frame side rails cut into the bolster foam, and the wire/coil springs cut into the seat bottom center foam. As the car ages, the seat's foam damage gets worse.

I had a local custom auto upholstery shop rebuild my driver's seat. He added leather strips to cover the frame's side rails and repaired the foam bolsters, and added a piece of carpet to cover the wires/coil springs on the seat bottom and repaired the damaged foam.

Cost me $95 out the door. I'm 5' 11" and 206.

Did about 1k miles in a day driving from IL to OH and back. As far as particularly uncomfortable mods go, the car has cam, pfadt mounts, coilovers, 335s all around. It was fine on the road and got to enjoy plenty of backroads. Woke up the next morning and felt like I had been in a wreck. Same drive in my X6M and I don't feel like an old man in the morning.
