Need help car overheating in traffic only.
Ok I recently had some upgrades done to my car heads cam manifold etc... Well the other day I was stuck in some pretty bad traffic and the car started to over heat pretty bad. Temps shot up to 250 and I started to smell burning coolant and saw some white smoke. I pulled over as soon as I could and shut the car down and waited about 40-50 minutes to see if temps went down. Car started fine and drove home had no issues while driving at normal speeds. Fans are on and I checked to see if any coolant was in the oil and everything appears to be fine. At idle car reaches 170-176 and stays there no problem. While driving normal speed car ranges from 180-190. Just in traffic conditions it raises to 220 and up. Not sure what it is. Do you guys have any ideas?

I would like to keep that info to myself as they are currently trying to help me solve the problem but as I'm not in the same city as them it's hard to trouble shoot over the phone.

If I got stuck in bumper-to-bumper for over 10 minutes or so the temps started to creep into a zone that had me worried. As I recall, 230+ or so which it never did before.

Yea it took me about 45 minutes to get really hot to where I had to shut it down. Today I tried to simulate the same situation and it took maybe 35-40 minutes to get to 220.

My fans come on it's just I know they run at higher speed ounce the temp starts to increase so I don't know if it is doing that. Was wondering if someone knew how to check it with a multimeter.

When I did my H/C I found bleeding all the air from the coolant system to be a bit of a pain. I would definitely check your coolant level as it may have burped some air and is now low.
Also a quick tip for ya, if you are overheating in traffic turn off the A/C. I was beginning to overheat on the highway one hot day when traffic was not moving. Killed the A/C and the temps returned to acceptable levels. Obviously not a fix but it is better than having to pull over.

I also performed a pressure test on the coolant system and it dropped pressure. But I check the oil and it has no signs of coolant also car does not smoke. And there hasn't been any coolant loss.

Was happening to me after cam install.
I would first start with pulling the connection to the fan controller and check to see if the ground has melted in the connection. Had to change mine out. fan would come on but would not ramp up when need extra amps.

Yea I checked that as well and the plug seems fine. The tuner who tuned the car did say that the person who tuned it before had the fans set at 100% and he told me that that sometimes cause that type of failure, but I did not have the melted plug.

Only other thing I could think of would be to much or to little timing at idle causing it to run not....especially to little timing.
