anybody using Pennzoil ultra?
Anybody have anything to say about Pennzoil ultra platinum oil? Their website shows a test that looks better vs Mobil1. Any independent test results available?

I used it once or twice.........good oil but hard to find in my area so I just use the Platinum version.
Oil is oil to me......................ALA it is the right type for the car (5w30 synthetic and meets the GM 4718M rating) it's good to go (I stocked up on 6 cases of Mobil 1 5w30).
I could use it on other cars I have (might switch to Amsoil 5w30 once I finish my head/cam swap).

Yes, use it a lot. No issues. I do like it better than M1 but I run whatever is on sale most of the time.

The ultra version that scored high in that test was the last revision. I don't think it is available anymore.

I've been running Penzoil Platinum and Ultra Platinum for years now. Its really good stuff and can be had for $22 a jug on sale at Walmart. I also use the prolong engine treatment as well...

Any objective - i.e. not from Pennzoil or Mobil - comparison of how Pennzoil Platinum or Ultra Platinum stack up against Mobil 1 on performance/engine protection?
I've heard lots of good things about the Pennzoil Platinum/Ultra - just not whether it's equal to, lesser than, or better than Mobil 1.

What's cool about the Pennzoil Platinum (& Ultra), is that the base oil comes from natural gas, and is refined through a GTL Process. Natural gas is much cleaner from the beginning than crude. Shell released some studies as well, but they were a bit vague. I will post some info if I can find it.
I have used it for 18-20K miles in my Lexus (daily) and plan on using Ultra for my first oil change in my new Z. I have no complaints so far, and at 5K intervals on the Lexus, the oil looks great.

The 540Rat write up is a sticky under the C3 tech and performance forum. I tried the ultra in several cars. I had to go to 3 Walmarts to fine enough for the Z06. I went back to Amsoil as it was a pia to fine.

Any good name brand syn. on sale is fine... Everyone has their preferences... I like Castrol Titanium or I have been using Valvoline Synpower 5w30. It's (independant) lab results were amongst the highest in several tests it was run in. Forgot where I read about it a few years back.
