Just to confirm...you have a C6 Z06, correct?
I think Jimman got close to 200K before moving on to his C7Z.

The title to the thread doesn't specifically mention Z06 only, but it is posted in the C6 Z06 forum so it is implied that it is only for Z06s.

I have 2006 Z06 LMB, bought in 2008 with 7,000 miles. I now have 96,000 miles and runs great! The motor/drive train is stock and only issue was a water pump at 75,000 miles.
Couldn't be happier. It's my daily driver... well, in the spring, summer and fall... not to much fun in the New Hampshire winters!!

166,600 on my ‘07 Z06. I bought it from a forum member last year with 156K on it. Car is stock with original heads. All it’s needed is an alternator and spark plugs/ wires. The original air filter was in it for 160K.

He did change the oil regularly. It runs great and only used one quart in the last 7K miles.

If the air filter wasn't changed for 160k miles then I am guessing the cabin air filter has never been changed. It wouldn't hurt to change that filter as well as I'm sure it needs it.

3 yr DD for me just hit 56k on the odom. Came with the 19/20 wheel combo and tire options suck. Stumbled onto this thread and it sure made my heart smile. No trailer queens in my stable and my dad always said “if you’ve got ‘em, smoke ‘em”.

That’s my thinking. I read where one dropped a valve at 100K, but no specifics like mods or if it failed due to a money shift.

That is such a naive statement. Just because the engine hasn't failed yet doesn't mean it won't fail in the future. When I hit 100k on my Z06 (and my engine was running fine), I decided to have the heads done and had the old guides measured. Almost every guide was out spec, one of them so bad that it couldn't even be registered on the gauge. Who knows how much longer the engine would have lasted in that condition. Just because he hasn't dropped a valve yet doesn't mean everything is ok and he shouldn't worry. The more the guides wear, the more chance that a valve will drop and it is pretty much a fact that the guides wear excessively in the LS7. I would say he is pretty lucky as I would almost guarantee some, if not all, of his guides are out of spec. It sure wouldn't hurt to have them inspected.

You're just another victim of these rampant homemade valve check tests. I'm sure some money hungry shop is going to tell him that his valves are out of spec and his motor could tank at any minute. It's the same diagnosis my buddy got on his Z06. 90,000 hard driven miles later on stock heads has him feeeling pretty good about sticking with his guns.
No one is saying to "blindly have the heads done" - we are saying "check them". Anyone recommending to keep their head in the sand and not check them, they are fools, and a fool and his money shall soon be parted.
