170,000+ miles rebuild
At 170000 miles finally got valve train noise above idle. Removed heads and found (1) galled roller lifter and cam lobe. Decided to go with American Heritage for stage 4 cylinder rebuild. Khloe had lots more reccomendation than WCCH. List of parts while down are:
AH Stage 4 Rebuild and hand porting
PSI Springs and Ti retainer
all stock valves
Powder Metal Guides
BT stage 2 cam
stock lifter
match port intake and throttle body
Rebuilt injectors and match flow
Rev Shift motor mounts
Stock timing chain and gear
stock clutch, pressure plate, flywheel and TB
Remote bleeder
Torque tube bushings
and finally driver side fuel sender

Man that is awesome. I love that you drove your car that much and that you picked it up from the NCM. You sir, are doing it right.
What's the specs on the cam?
What kind of power are you expecting to be making?
What about Cali Smog?

When my 2009 Z06, at 25,000 miles, ran out of the 5 year warranty, I replaced my heads as sort of an insurance policy. Pay $4,300 now or possibly $15,000 later.
My car might very well have lasted for 170,000 miles without dropping a valve, but I didn't feel that I wanted to take the chance that it might drop a valve at 26,000 miles.
I've never owned any new car that I felt I had to spend major money at only 25,000 miles except for my Z06. In fact I've never had any new car that needed major repairs done with less than 100,000 miles.

Your money your choice. OP drove and enjoyed his Beast it appears he didn't drink the cool aid

I look forward to the day you drop a valve and then we can hear you bitch & whine about having a huge repair bill

I wonder if you or dmuellenberg could share any and all maintenance procedures you followed such as oil type, how often you changed the oil, filter type, startup procedure, how you drove the car, anything? Mileage over 100,000+ with no mods to the stock heads is VERY impressive..this coming from a guy with a 10Z06, bought new, with 3,200 miles on the LS7….Nice to hear...

Thank you the compliment. It's only natural that I had to get one after being a Corvair nut. Cam specs are 230/246 .644"/.630" 115+4. shooting for 500 HP. I forgot about CA smog. May have to rethink cam choice

I have never tracked the car, but like to run through the gears on occasion. It is pretty much my daily driver when not put away for the winter months. When I got my heads reworked, there were a few exhaust and intake valves that were a little out of spec, but not real bad. I just decided for peace of mind to have the heads done when I hit 100,000.
I think letting it sit for a couple of weeks or more between starts is not a good thing and driving it daily is good for it (at least it's good for me ).

Quote..."Short block wasnt making any noise. Still has cross hatch on cylinder walls. Any suggestions are appreciated"
You have the motor out. Now would be the time to go ahead and replace all the connecting rod, cam and crank bearings. Wouldn't cost you that much extra and then you're done with it. Oh, and don't forget the freeze plugs.
Good luck and good going.
