Some Low Life dropped a dime
Last Sunday my Corvette Club had a Caravan to Wine Country on the East End of Long Island NY. We formed up and hit the Expressway and within a mile a Police Cruiser pulled ahead of the line of cars and one fell in behind we were naïve enough to think we were getting an escort. What happened was The Sgt. demanded licenses and registrations and insurance cards and preceded to write up 6 out of 19 cars for "no front plate" . When approached by some retired LEO's in the group they were told "get back in your car or your going to jail" . I guess some "low life foreskin" has it in for us. I also have the feeling that the LEOS involved didn't want to do this but were forced by the powers that be. I can only hope that the person that did this uses his next paycheck to buy medicine for his family. Rant Over

Cliff,
this is total BS...I know the deal...I fought the law and the law won, but here is what I would do...
There may be circumstances that make this not apply but I would put a communication together and send it to the officer's boss.
It would state all of the activities where you and all those Corvettes in the line spend money in the jurisdiction of the cop. Tell them that there actions clearly show you and your Corvette friends are not welcome to spend money and taxes in their town.
Let them know that the revenue from their tickets will be the end to all of the revenue they would have gotten if they had allowed you to not avoid spending money in there part of town anymore.

I'm from NY and while I hate the law 6 out of 19 guys should have been running a front plate. If you don't you get your ***** busted.
Refusing to observe the law is a choice. Getting a ticket is the result. God bless freedom.
It could be worse... you could live in NC...

My guess (from experience) is that they thought you guys were going to be meeting up somewhere for street racing.
This same thing happened once to the Camaro club I was president of. We were all filling up at 2 gas stations getting ready to caravan back to Dallas, and cop cars blocked the exits and harassed the hell out of us one car at a time and not letting any of us leave until they were done. They were RUDE AS HELL. The only tickets they were able to write were for nit pick BS, and only a few of those! When we got back home, I sent a letter to every member of the city council, our usual hotel and the chamber of commerce and included the hotel booking information for the previous 5 years where we had been going to that towns race track twice a year. Gas station fill ups, dinners, lunches, etc were estimated. No member of our club had ever received a citation for a driving violation in their city, and I made clear that not only would we never come back but I would work my *** off to get everyone I could to boycott that track as well. The track owner went to the council meeting (I couldn't as it was in another state) and called me at work to tell me it had gone GREAT. I later received a letter from the mayor and another one from their police chief apologizing. They had seen the large group of Camaros and thought we were street racers. That is why they wanted to make it clear that we were not welcome there. The track owner tried to let the chief know when they were hosting "street car" events that would bring in a lot of street cars from then on. It all worked out in the end, and I gained an understanding of how we can be viewed the wrong way sometimes.

If you like vast expanses with bad food and nothing to do then yes NC is for you.
Every place has its good and bad but yes I would take LI/NYC over NC any day of the week. Its got it all. Beach/City/Space all within 50 miles. NC has its moments. The outer banks are very nice but nothing I cant get here on LI.
My mother and other family of mine migrated and now live in NC.
I always joke with my mother. A Brooklyn girl trying to justify living there goes like this "We have big malls and stores too, its only 30 mins away" My reply "Yes, 30 minutes away driving 80 MPH on the interstate" "Can you walk home if you need to?"
When I visit I cant get out of that state fast enough.

Ill take it.
FL is not that bad... I have a place in Tampa. The weather is nice, I wouldn't call it better though. Its oppressively hot 5 months out of the year. I like my seasons. NY winters can be brutal though. The good thing about NY is if its too cold you can always put on another layer of clothing. You can only take so much off to cool off.
Downtown Tampa is nice but its funny to listen to people call it a "City".
Like I said every place has its good and bad but there is no place like NY. You get some of everything. The biggest downside these days in NY is the population. But you live in FL, it will probably overtake NY in population in the next 5 years.

What illustrates the inanity of this, is that if I had been running in the group, I would have been running without a front plate and would not have gotten a ticket. Cuz Kansas doesn't use front plates. So I would have been legal and the others not.
Pretty ridiculous.
