Default C7Z hits 0-60 in 2.95 seconds

I just read a report on CNN, quoting Chevrolet, that the C7Z will be under 3 seconds 0-60--with the 8 speed auto. About 3.4 with the manual.

Don't think I'd want a torque converter in a Corvette intended for road racing.

I'm wondering how quick the auto will overheat on the track (the C7 Z51 has had some issues reported) . . . .

Manual C7 Z06 only beats C6 Z06 by 0.2 sec and 1 mph in 1/4. Auto is faster ET but same trap speed of 127 as the manual.

Note that the time gap between C6 and C7 at 60mph is bigger than the time gap at 1/4 mile for both the manual and auto versions of the C7.

So, the C6 is faster from 60-126 than the C7 based on GM numbers released for the C7 and the Car and Driver test results for the 2007 C6
Z06.

Unless, of course the GM numbers just released are conservative...

And the CHarger Hellcat -- the 4 door dodge is reported to be faster.

Looks like the propaganda wars commence

The poor old 640hp viper is so slow

I mean ya, but a viper or C7Z is going to run rings around a Hellcat at VIR.

Even so, Ranger beat the Hellcat's 1/4 mile time in a stock C6Z06.

There are probably a dozen threads on this in the C7 Z06 section. All worthless, means nothing on the street. But fun to read. Auto should be quicker, not faster (or used be that way). Knowing GM, they are likely taking #'s from a few runs and posting bests. A8 and M7 same trap speeds...hmm

Does anyone know how the c7z did these 0-60? was it at a drag strip with the additional traction or on the street? How do they launch all that power without spinning? traction control?

C6 was never a 3.4 second car. GM official number was 3.8. on the 6 speed.

Where do you get .2second difference?The c7 z06 manual ran 11.2 versus 11.7 for the c6 z06.Thats a half a second not .2 as you state.The automatic c7 z06 ran 10.95.

That's amazing when you think about it. You will be able to buy a 10 second car right off the showroom floor.

And...I believe these numbers are SLIGHTLY conservative! I mean 127mph trap speed is rather lax IMO. I know that thing has MORE than GM is releasing. Cant wait to see all the test!

Auto with launch control will bring in lower times for sure but hardly represents normal street driving. Numbers look good on paper but real life driving the manual numbers are more realistic....

GM numbers for the 2013 models.

base LS3 4.2 seconds, 12.6@115
427 vert 3.8 seconds, 11.8@123
Z06 3.7 seconds, 11.7@125
ZR1 3.4 seconds, 11.3@131

BUT, the GM specs for the 2006 Z06 was 3.5 seconds 0-60 and 11.5@127.1 in the 1/4.

Install the tires from a C7(base C7 to base C6, C7 Z06 to C6 427 vert, C7 Z06 to C6 Z06, C7 Z06 to C6 ZR1) on any of the above(you don't have to be a rocket doctor to do that "mod") and see where the numbers fall. I think you will find the delta becomes very, very small between a C6 and a C7.

A big chunk of the performance gains with the C7 are the results of a decade newer tire technology.

it amazes me how many people can't figure out this simple rule of thumb...the right tires make a world of a difference and the GY are about as crap a tire as they come.
