LS9X Clutch Failure
LS9X Clutch Failure
C6/Z06. 15000 miles. Street and track day use. No drag racing or hard launches. Katech flywheel.
Rev limiter set to 7000 rpm. Shift light set to 6800 rpm.
Two rivets that hold the diaphragm to the pressure plate separated.
Clutch still felt normal. No strange noises.
Only discovered after inspecting the car on a lift after a track day at Road Atlanta.
Major damage to the bell housing.
Multiple impact sights that fractured the bell housing. Parts finally exited the bottom of the bell housing damaging the right side header. Barely missed the transmission oil cooler lines.
Damaged the flywheel and starter.
I guess even a OEM LS9 clutch tested and validated by GM can fail!

That is not good since I have the same exact setup. Also I was told by Katech that the Aluminum flywheel with this clutch wont make any chatter or noise. That is totally not true for some reason with mine. My chatters like crazy and it is not installer error.

Talk to Jason maybe he can help you out

When exactly does yours chatter? During engagement? Or are you talking about when the car is in neutral with the clutch out?
#8
ya neutral it will rattle until I put the clutch in then it goes away. I was under the impression after talking to him and the guys I bought it from that the weight of the ZR1 clutch and the design of it wouldn't chatter like this.

Mine failed like yours, only worse. It was stuck halfway engaged. Took out the bell housing also. They wouldn't warranty the flywheel or bell housing. I'm at 540 rwhp.

Pretty sure that's normal because of the dual clutch discs floating freely. My RPS BC2 (twin carbon discs) was the same way, only louder. "Chatter" in the traditional sense occurs during clutch engagement while driving. These clutches do not chatter. But they do rattle in neutral.

Seen this several times. One of the many reasons I wouldn't recommend one.

I have one that looks worst then that, you can have it if you want.
Maybe we should ship them all back COD, no warranty for me even though I was promised it would be capable.
Then tried a Tilton, I'll sell you that one.
Now running a Mantic, so far so good.
