Default Well, another dead LS7...

So i took my car into the shop because it was starting slow. I thought it was going to be the battery, but it wasn't. The chevy guys replaced it and the condition was still there. They changed the starter and then went to a 2nd starter. When checking the oil they found metal shavings in the oil.

Chevy is sending out a new long block and they gave me a rental. Car has 14k miles on it. I knew that I would have a problem some day but I didn't expect it to be this soon! Crazy!

The bummer is that since they already okayed a new engine, we'll never know what really happened to my engine. I'm curious if it was a valve guide issue or something else. The dealer is going to send it back to chevy.

Car wasn't really even beaten on that much as I have a track car to do that with. Since it's a vert, I can't run it at the track....

Probably the rod bearings, although they usually go at about 3500 miles, not 14,000.

sucks, but at least you've got a warranty to cover the replacement....

Make sure that everything that touches the oil is also replaced.

Yes, I got a new engine late last year. GM replaced some of the components and asked the dealer to clean others. 5 months later, that engine went out. So, on the third engine, GM said replace it all. Sump, oil lines coolers etc. I applaud GM for looking after me the way they have. I realize I shouldn't have to deal with this. But, I could be dealing with it and fighting over the warranty. That's what happened with my Mustang and Ford. I'll never own another Ford. I'm already saving for the next Z06 purchase

Is this a 2013 427 convertible. If not, what year and who did the convertible conversion.

Agreed, as clearances open up pressure drops, accompanied by noise?

If there were shavings in the oil, i am surprised it wasn't knocking or anything, and low oil pressure with the clearances opened up that much. I guess they all fail different though.

427 Vert

Add: this seems to be the issue with 13.s. I wonder if the guides are still issue? Time will tell.

He said it was a vert. I'd bet $5 and a dounut its a 2013 427. If it is, it lasted three times longer than most 13's with the rod coating issue.

I got mine back this morning

So not shavings, but most likely melted titanium fragments. Makes sense.
