Default Interior improvements

The interior of my 2006 Z06 is underwhelming. The seats are not very supportive, and the steering wheel is sort of embarrassing in a vehicle of this caliber. I drive HPDE quite often and I always felt that a good seat was tops on the list next to fresh brake fluid when doing the bare minimum to prepare a corvette for track fun. So I thought I'd at least upgrade the parts that I'm in contact with when driving. DS Vettes upgraded steering wheel helped a lot

It's black leather with an alcantara accent added. I wanted something that looks sorta OEM.
I also added a Recaro profi SPG with help from MTI Racing fixed mounting brackets which are really nice. The one interesting adventure I had was figuring how to mount the seat belt stuff to the bracket. After much head scratching, nut/bolt sifting and some drilling I got it all worked out.

My Corvette is transformed!! I can't believe how much more connected to the car I feel. I'm kicking myself for not doing the seat upgrade when I first got the car. I've suffered sore wrists after every track event due to those terrible benches. And whats with the cheezy two tone crap all over the interior? I'm going to make it all black because I can't stand it.
I have another Recaro that I could mount to the passenger side but I'm not sure yet.
BTW, I believe a Recaro SPG XL will fit fine if someone out there is wondering about the larger sized seat.
I want to thank all the members of this forum for the knowledge that has helped me as much as it has. Even though I don't drink

Next step is six point harnesses....

The recaros found in a CTSV should have been an option in the Z06 - even if there is a weight penalty. Thankfully, the Sport Seats upgrade in the new Stingray has a similar design.

Nice mods!

Yes! Painting the grey pieces black is the way to go. Satin black I'm assuming is more shiny than matte black, but not as shiny as piano black? That's probably what I'm looking for

I like the new steering wheel and seat. As far as the two tone seats, my car was all black interior. Seat covers had red stitching. Too much black for me. I bought two tone seat covers in OEM colors (ebony/titanium) and had them installed. I still have the original black seat covers.

I had pole positions but I'm waiting to get pole postion abe's so that the seat belt buckle can easily come through the lap belt hole. The hard plastic center console needs to go! Get the centennial edition suede. It's got significantly more cushion. I converted my entire interior to the centennial edition. Very nice improvement. It's not as nice as a $25k caravaggio interior but it's a big improvement nonetheless!

I like the idea of a race bucket in leather. Pole Positions are nice for that reason.
More info on seats and brackets please
The MTI fixed mount is pretty simple to install. It just takes time to get the seat positioned correctly with the side mounts. I used washers to incrementally position the seat so that it was centered with the steering wheel. Also when I test bolted everything together and placed the assembly in the car I found the SPG made the whole thing too narrow to line up with the floor studs, so the addition of the washers to where the seat bolts meet the side brackets and where the side brackets meet the floor bars got everything to line up eventually. The seat belt was the time consuming part but that was because I couldn't find the correct size bolts and nuts for quite a while in my garage
I think a seat with a wider shell would work more smoothly with the fixed mounts.

I can't wait for the next track day...I feel it's going to be a whole new experience.

Did you use the hardened h10 bolts? Heaven forbit you got into an accident you want the strongest bolts you can get to keep the seat in place. If not I think I have a few left. I couldn't find these specialized pieces individually...I had to buy in bulk

I've never heard of h10 bolts. I'll look them up. I found some grade 12.9 bolts in my pile that I was happy to make use of.

Looks really nice. You guys have to much money. Wish I did. I'm just thankful I have a Z06, all the flaws and everything.

That steering wheel looks great!! How much does something like that cost? Is it easy to install yourself?
