Default What is a good buy price for 2007 Z06??

Sorry dont know these cars well, so I apologize for the noob question. What would be a great price to purchase this car at? Was a dealer trade in, so not sure on service history? Maybe i can run vin at a Chevy dealer and check that way?

Silver/Black
49,500 miles
will need new rear tires in next 3,000 miles or so
NAV
Bose
Polished wheels
could knicks but overall in good shape for exterior
has a little winding throwout bearing or synchro whine in first and second gear-dont know Z's enough to know if its normal or needs further attention. Has a little shake at startup too like may need a motor mount?

What are you willing to pay?

Check kbb, nada, autotrader, ebay, and cars.com. See what something in similar condition is advertised for. Offer a little less and go from there

Trade in at KBB is 37k. It sounds like it could use some work.

Start lower.

I know the dealers here low ball everything on a trade - if it was my local chevy guy id walk in with 32k

It was a trade in at a Benz dealer. Going to take it down the street to the Chevy dealer to have the service guy take a look before/if i decide to buy.

Read-up here on the valvetrain issues, and be prepared to spend $2K-$3K (?) to address it if the car
you're thinking of buying has the problem. You'll need to spend money as well to have this checked...

I dont mind spending a little money to check it out if it saves thousands of dollars of headaches if I buy it. Would be a third car for weekends, but dont want to spend a fortune on it for maintenance

It's a used car with 50K mi's, and likely has no warranty...it only makes sense that you'll likely need to spend some money
on maintenance...what about tires/alignment ? fluid changes ? electrical ?

I do agree with you re: get the car checked-out thoroughly.

Default well

I SAY $40,000 ONLY IF IT WAS UNDER 20,000 MILES AND PERFECT Condition. These Z cars have been taking a beating for years now. Don't pay so much that you are way upside down. I feel like the older c6 cars are way due for a price adjustment very soon. Of course the car dealers and sellers of some of them will not say that to you. I would not trust a dealer on that car. they know nothing and will tell you less. Talk to them about the car and see how much they know!Luck to you

Thanks Gary. Yes-I know that in 6 months or so I'm going to have to drop $1200-$1400 on tires to do it right, or just change the rears as the front are fine. I know there will need to be oil, transmission, diff fluid changes as we'll. What I was trying to say was that I want to get it checked by a mechanic so I don't buy it tomorrow and it breaks down on Saturday, and I have a huge bill on a car I just purchased.

So if it checks out is $32,000 a steal?

I'd be the first to say that if I had to do it over again I wouldn't buy another high mileage Z unless it was an awesome deal. By awesome for that car I would say 34k or less. And that little whinning you hear in the tranny is bad news. I had to have my 07 tranny rebuilt by RPM also had to replace the torque tube and clutch........dealer wanted $7500.00. But my vette mech did it for $5500.00. I ended up spending around 18 to 20k on my 07 with 67k miles. It needed tires at the same time the tranny died $2300.00 a BCM $1200.00 brake pads and rotors $1000.00. You will need to have the heads addressed. I spent right around $4000.00 for the PRC's (but I could have done this cheaper) A lot of other stuff that I wanted to do made the cost climb.......so......I hope this helps answer some of your questions.

I do love the car and consider it a keeper but parts for these cars are not cheap. Once you have the problems (and you will find problems) addressed the car just needs gas and oil.....still want the car now?

I have a little noise between shifts only when the transmission is cold, after a few minutes of driving the noise goes away, is that an issue?

Im going to do my due dilligence on this to make sure I dont get burned-or simply walk away. I will see if I can get maintenance records of what work has been done already under warranty or at the dealership.

If its ONLY synchros, I can have a good friend of the family mechanic that is a head mechanic for an ALMS Porsche team rebuild it for parts+cheap labor. Dont know how much the parts are by themselves, but this info would give me leverage during negotiation for sure.

So does it make far more sense to spend more upfront on a low mileage 08, and avoid a higher mileage car?

Thanks in advance for everyone's assistance!

pay now...pay later...you choose

I would advise doing a good bit of research on the forum before pulling the trigger.

1. Whining: what you describe is not normal IMHO. Could be throw out bearing I suppose, or other issues. Major job to pull the tranny (whole rear drivetrain has to come out, pretty much requires a full lift).

2. Motor mount: likely. They are filled with fluid and tend to fail as time goes by. I guess you'd have to get under it and kinda know what to look for.

Pretty much. You'd want to get the heads checked immediately (wiggle test or pull them off completely, at which point you might as well rebuild/replace them). And I wouldn't put a ton of faith in the average GM dealer doing a pre-purchase inspection; it would be better than nothing but contrary to what one would think they are not all that familiar with the cars.

I think most of that is failers from abuse.... T56 is a great tranny.

Brakes are a wear item on any car. period.

FInd a nice used one and enjoy. if it needs something the savings will come into play if not. your ahead.

performance is all the same 06-13
