Congrats on catching the issue before catastrophe occurred.

This has become an all too common story... I think any Z with over 20k miles needs to be checked. I usually hate the legal BS, but frankly this sounds like worthy grounds for a class action suit considering how many stock engines are having this problem, especially with such low mileage.

Good thing you had the engine checked - would hate to read about another LS7 engine being destroyed.

Where the heads replaced also? Remember you can't have wear without friction and if everything is lined up that goes away. Changing materials with the same poor alignment gained you nothing.

Hey "zuli", Just wondering what the Chevy dealer charges to do the wiggle test or did you have it done by an independent shop. I'm in the south bay area, Torrance. The two dealers I've spoken to in the area(Long Beach & Cerrito's) say that there not familiar with this "LS7" valve problem that we've been seeing.

So how do you know this was a stock engine?

Congrats and thank you for not being one of those that ignore or deny this very REAL issue!

I didn't say I knew this particular engine was stock, but I said that many stock LS7's have exhibited this problem. I've examined 3 in the past month myself. When you see multiple street cars with different mfg dates (talking years here), with as low as 20k suffering from this problem, and many are stock, there's an issue.

This is lousy engineering and/or poor manufacturing. I design products for a living and am familiar with many forms of testing required for durability & reliability, along with overall DFM requirements and GM didn't do their proper homework. I've worked with clients that will demand proper testing and allow the time for it, including an unforeseen major "reset" that delays production if required to deliver the "right" product. Other clients want to hit a launch date & will deal with the fallout later. It seems fair to say we're dealing with the latter here.

I used old heads with new bronze guides and new exhaust valves also changed rocker arm to trunion style

Danm, you mean I've been sitting on a poorly designed time bomb for the last 180,000 miles.

There was a pedestal height issue causing side load that was discovered by an Engineer in Florida but was beat up so bad on the forum he bailed.
