[Z06] 1967 Z/28 vs Stock Z06

Stock my a$$, most of those old muscle cars are 15, maybe 14 sec slugs on good days

Some guy ran a 9.99 on a stock 1999 Kawasaki ZX-9. The engine is a stock block, heads with no porting, stock compression ratio and pistons. This beats all stock Z06's and a lot of modded ones. A ZR1 is in trouble with this motorcycle.

its a purpose built race car...

guys remember back in the day these cars were limited to the tires they had, they were junk. also many hp numbers were under rated for insurance reasons. ive seen many old school cars run pretty damn good times, especially those small cubic inch engines, they turned high rpms all day. 8,000 rpm was the norm. im sure this car has more tricks than you can imagine, and has a purpose and does it well. sounds like it has 4:88, top speed is probably 130 or so. this guy plays the game well.

Thanks G Player, you are the only positive comment. I own a 1966 vette and Jerry MacNeish has a restoration shop in Baltimore. I wanted to talk to him and found his website. His speciality is Camero restoration. This video was on his website. I am not a drag racer but I do follow you guys on your individual results. Fact is his time beats a stock Z06 and a ZR1 . His engine was torn down after he broke the record. Granted his car is really not a streetable car bur he followed the NHRA rules and owns the record got D/Stock. I find it amazing a bored 302 could do this. If you guys find this thread boring, don't read it!
If you titled the thread "Bad *** 67 Z/28" then yea you're right, it's awesome.
To start going about it like its a "stock" Z/28 is a whole different subject.
It's nowhere near stock. I laughed when it pulled the wheelie.

F.A.S.T. cars
I'm impressed with that Z/28. And there are a number of equally impressive cars that run in the FAST (Factory Appearing Stock Tire) series. Check out the rules for the two classes and then look at some of the cars that participate and their times. http://www.fastraces.org/members/fas...nu-items/ghp00

Back in 1971 I owned a stock 68 302 Z/28. The car was factory rated at 290hp and some said it was closer to 390. I loved that car and wish I had it back. That being said, there is NO WaY a stock 302 can come close to a LS7. That engine was low on torque below 3000rpm, but it would pull up in the rev range.

No way you can compare nhra legal stocker to a stock car , there is probably 2 times as much money in that stocker than 2 z06s cost, those stockers are very fast because of tremendous amounts of r&d and $$$$$$$ I would like to see a c6 z06 stocker but I'm not sure they are in the classification guide

Great car , awesome car . And yeah that z/28 will smoke my Z06 , but stock ( doubt it) I mean dude the front wheels came off the ground .....LOL

Old muscle cars were underrated against a Gross SAE rating scale...which was "overrated" compared to later Net SAE rating standards.
Take a look at this article:
http://www.superchevy.com/technical/...s/viewall.html
This has actual stock classic muscle cars in the article.
The 1970 Chevelle LS6 454 put down 283 rwhp
The 69 L72 Yenko put down 287.56 rwhp.
These are well-maintained cars too. Neither one would be rated over 400 hp today like they were in 69' or 70'

The only way this or any other 1967 pony car running mid-10's is "close to stock" is if it is parked next to a stock 1967 pony car in the garage at night.

My dad was two time tri state drag racing champion B Stock in a 1964 GTO with a 389 Tri Power (Hurst spring loaded shifter etc etc) that was indeed street legal and numbers matching (Every single part on the engine of his car had a stock part number)
Of course when they actually put it on a machine to test it he was moved from B Stock to C Gas (Yes the numbers matched but the heads were so polished that you could almost use them as a mirror to shave with. The two outer carbs did indeed have stock part numbers but the part numbers were actually for the MIDDLE carb which was much bigger) and lots and LOTS of other little things had been done to the car.
C Gas allowed you to run slicks (Which he didn't have) but a friend of his loaned him a set of semi slicks for that day and his GTO pulled a run of 10.95 (Don't remember the traps) using them (With real slicks it would have managed a better time)
I respect the old muscle (Grew up with it) and they can indeed be dang fast. Just not stock

I just sold a 69 Yenko Camaro (Clone) that had 520HP 600TQ and a Muncie 4Speed 4.11 Gears. It was an Animal but with Slicks I could get in the 11's
I can tell you this, You put slicks on the Z06 I have stock other than a CAI and exhaust and it would beat my Yenko every time!
I guarantee a close to Stock 302 is not making anywhere close to 520HP and if you shifted a stock SBC at 8500rpm's you would have a scavenger hunt to find all the engine pieces, Transmission and Rearend after the race...
That Said, He defiantly has the car dialed in and she is a runner, but I would say the drivetrain and suspension is far from stock!
I do love old Camaro's though! just got sick of wrenching on it more than I drove it...

In my opinion, Stock Eliminator cars are actually pretty cool.... they really take what they can from the rule book and optimize, optimize, optimize. (And stretch that rule book too. )
Rolling resistance is looked at to the point you can push those cars with your pinky finger. Ton of gearing and/or converter. The cam, while limited in lift, is not with duration and they keep that secret as to what they use. But, even with the lift, there are ways to get around that.... they'll have the cam lobe and valvetrain working together so that the lifter literally jumps off the lobe at the top (Thus extending lift substantially)
I've been told about a dozen other little tricks they do... but the vast majority do not correspond to a street car.
They are definitely "NOT" street cars.... the converter and gearing alone deter that.
