the C6 is the base model. The Z06 is a hybrid and gets better mileage, and you can plug it in. The Z06 claims about a $25k premium above the base model, but they are both great cars! Just depends on the MPG you want to get

Actually the C6 and the Z06 are C6 models. Not to confuse you though. The C6 base model is just that. The C6 Z06 model is the upgrade model with a premium upgrade in price. The Z06 is often referred to as the c6z. It has aluminum chassis, carbon fiber fenders larger brakes different suspension, bigger-more powerful engine, wider fenders, wider tires and wheels, cooling ducts for the brakes etc. and so on.

If your all about performance, the upgrade is worth the price.

C6 Z06:
Wide Body
Bigger Tires
LS7 motor rated at 505hp over the LS2/3 motor rated at 430hp/436hp
Z06 suspension
Z06 stiched seats and gauge cluster
Different gearing in transmission
All aluminum frame
Battery located in the rear
LS7 clutch rated for more power than the base C6 clutch

sure there is more but those are the basics

You might find this helpful - http://www.corvettemuseum.org/specs/2006/index.shtml

There is a comparison chart of an 2006 C6 and 2006 C6Z closer to the bottom.

Base C6 and Z06 have the same transmission gearing, but the Z06 has a stronger transmission/differential(transaxle).

Really? I swore the Z06 always had different gear ratios than the base models. I might be thinking about the MN6 and MN12 trans from the C5.

Typed in C6 Corvette on Google, first link was Wikipedia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Corvette_(C6)

Then I typed in Corvette and went to the Chevy website.
http://www.chevrolet.com/corvette-sports-car.html
http://www.chevrolet.com/corvette-z06-sports-car.html

If this is what you consider "limited" information, you must be looking for something extremely specific.

[Sidenote, C6 is also the Genertation, Z06 is a specific trim level]

Base C6 and Z06 are the same car except for:

Body, frame, wheels, tires, brakes, engine, oil system, clutch, transmission, rear end, transmission and rear end coolers, springs, shocks, sway bars, interior and exterior badges, some other little stuff I can't think of right now, price, and of course performance.

Other than that they're identical!

You may be confusing the Base and Z51 gearing. The Z51 option has a shorter ratio in some of the gears. The Z51 option is designed to have an advantage over the Base version on a track so they lowered the ratios in those gears to give more torque to the wheels at lower speeds. The Z06 already has more torque so they geared it back up to match the ratios of the Base and now they have both lower end and higher end advantage.
